We are pleased to be able to start taking orders for the new design Buzz sails by Hyde. We are sure you will like them as much as we do! New design by a new manufacturer and at a lower price than they were 5 years ago! The first batch of sails will be flown in and should arrive in this country towards the end of March. Due to the increased transportation costs these sails are more expensive than the shipped in sails, which will be arriving in May. If you want your sails in time for the CVLSC open meeting these are the sails for you!

Costs of flown in sails are as follows;
Buzz Main by Hyde £456
Buzz Jib by Hyde £255
Buzz Spinnaker by Hyde £498
Full Suit will cost £1209

The next batch of sails will be arriving in May and due to the lower transport costs will cost the following prices. These prices will become the standard prices for Buzz sails in the future

Costs of shipped in sails;
Buzz Main by Hyde £420
Buzz Jib by Hyde £235
Buzz Spinnaker by Hyde £460
Full Suit will cost £1155

We are taking orders now for new sails. To ensure that we are able to meet your delivery requirements from the first batch, air or sea freight, please send your firm written order, together with 50% deposit to reach W&W ASAP, final date for ordering of flown in sails will be announced when we know from Hyde.

We will of course order additional sails for stock with delivery via sea freight. However, after satisfying the pre-orders above, these will be sold on a first come first served basis. A gap can then be expected whilst the next batch is manufactured and shipped. Please confirm your orders for this season, with 50% deposit, ASAP.

We will be posting pictures of the sails very soon so keep checking these pages...

The new Hyde sails (latest protos) were shown off at TASA this last weekend at Weston SC. Sported by FAST&LOOSE987 the sails proved to be excellent with the right performance features and 'look'. W&W have assured me that final (and very minor)design issues will be resolved in the production patterns. Hopefully the digipiz will be up on bu22.co.uk very soon.
......still didn't quite manage to beat Stu & Zoe - though it was very close!!

Hmmm . . . a little too close!!

It did mean we got a close look at the sails though! and very impressive they looked too!! Except the spinnaker which will look far better in blue as the old type if available.

It isn't clear from the photo... is the new gennaker as different from the old one as it looks from the pictures for the ISO?

Andy,

What colours do the gennaker come in? Also, are the prices same for each colour ?

I think the new sails are going to look excellent on white hull....(of course I am biased)

Hi,

Glad you seem to like the sails! We agree with you that white is not a practical colour for a spinnaker, and (rather boringly!) specified that we want the new spinnakers to remain blue for the Buzz and red for the ISO.
Hope these colours are ok with you!

As for sail shape, we are making the Buzz and ISO spinnakers far more similar in shape to the original spinnakers than the ones in the pictures. This is because everyone that tried the sails seemed to agree that the bigger spinnakers were good fun, but rubbish for club racing where there are often tight reaches. Basically it seems that for windward-leeward courses big spinnakers are good, but for handicap courses small spinnakers are better as they can be carried on a larger range of angles.

There were also complaints of the bigger spinnaker being more difficult to get up and down, and too much of a handful for inexperienced crews... The big spinnaker also had a tendency to drag in the water in light winds.

Hope this clarifies things...

Matt

Yes - the new sails looked great at Weston at the week-end although it would have been nice to have a little more wind. Particulalry liked that they are 'see-through' - should give more options of where helm/crew can sit going downwind in light airs if the crew can see the kite from behind the jib.

Glad to hear the kite won't be white as it was a little boring and would get mucky very quickly.

Are the prices for a full suite correct - it seems odd to have to pay a £40 premium to buy all three sails??

Not that we are planning to buy a new boat but is it set in stone the new hulls will be white - we think the dark blue, black or red look best but that is probably just a personal preference and possibly doing all white is cheaper??

Cheers
Jane

The £40 difference is because of the different delivery methods.

The quick method by plane is dearer and the later method by ship, is the cheapest.

Currently, the reasons for the quick and slow delivery methods and dates is to do with the fact there is no stock at present due to the change in manufacturer and a batch is on order for quick delivery to get them out on the sailing scene. There is another batch on order for later delivery. I'm also sure there will be another batch on order after that - listening to all the conversations on how everybody loves them.

Hope that helps Jane.

Pete - Jane means when you add up cost of sails for the later shipping it is 40 pounds cheaper than the cost of full suit at later shipping

If you want something quick then you have to pay £40 extra for it. If you don't want it quick, then don't pay the extra £40 and just wait for the ship to come in.

Costs of shipped in sails;
Buzz Main by Hyde £420
Buzz Jib by Hyde £235
Buzz Spinnaker by Hyde £460
Full Suit will cost £1155

£420 + £235 + £460 = £1115

Buying the individual sails is £40 cheaper than buying them all at once.

The numbers for the flown in sails are correct, but the ones that come by boat don't add up. It looks like a typo.

Thanks for the reply re spinnaker colours....

Just for sake of clarity, does this mean that only blue coloured gennakers are available via the current order? OR does it mean that there only ever blue spinnakers for the da Buzz and red for da ISO?

As you can gather, I am more worried about the colour of the gennaker rather than its performance capabilities - I am so vein..

Hello again,

Just to confirm that you are right with your calculations! (Just wanted to see how switched on the Buzz fleet are these days...) The cost for a full set of flown in sails is not £1155 but £1115.
I am not sure about producing different spinnaker colours, I will phone Hyde now and see what they can do/ how much it will cost. I do not see why we should not be able to produce a different spinnaker colour if ordered in advance. I will get back to you soon.

Cheers

Matt

Please note the flown in price quoted in the above message is actually the shipped in price!

Hi Matt,

Just a minor and quite fussy comment!!

Can we have the Buzz logo placed on the panel below where it is on the test sails? The sail numbers can be on the panel below this.

Do others agree with me?? I think it would look better this way and surely add at least half a knot to our upwind speed!!

Stuart.

I agree with the last 2 comments on the logo and sail numbers.

Will the sails come with instructions?... I found it a tad confusing for instance, that to tighten the battens you allen key anti-clock wise, until someone explained it to me.

The main sail also seem to set flatter than the old ones, but speaking to another sail maker bod familiar with Hyde, he said that the aerofoil shape is perhaps a more consistent shape (when in full power mode) along the whole length.

Hey,

Good news! We have just recieved the first batch of Buzz Mains and Spinnakers and they look great! We still have a few of these sails left so if you want to get your hands on them give us a call... The jibs are delayed due to a change in specification but should be with us soon.

These sails are ready for dispatch from us now and I am sure will sell quickly so make sure you order yours soon to avoid disapointment.

The shipped in sails will be arriving on the 11/06/2007.

Matt
