I sail my Buzz at Haversham and I've been racing single-handed.
I use a telescopic tiller and I've got the assymetric rigged up to hoist from the back of the boat. Apart from recently adding turning blocks to bring the trapeze elastic back towards the helm, everything else is standard. I tack by nipping around the back of the boat as normal.
Are there others out there who like the Buzz for learning trapeze helming? I'm sure some who have their eyes on the Musto Skiff or RS 700 must need to start somewhere. However, I just LOVE sailing the Buzz one up (I don't feel the need to move up, I just get wasted by the 5% less handicap!).
I'm fine in anything up to a good force 4. Force 5 is OK if it is steady. Upwind the jib can be furled if necessary. Give up (or hire a crew) if it gets strong AND gusty.
My results are reasonably competitive within our club in the lighter wind conditions, but I have to work hard in the boat (which I like)when the wind gets up.
Any comments or similar experiences??? |

I used to race the Buzz S/H quite a lot in light winds without the kite. Often with better results than with a crew and kite.
Also enjoyed sailing on the trapeze S/H and would agree it is a great way to learn to helm from the trapeze although I havn't raced like this. 5% sounds a bit steep just for being S/H. We generally just knock 20 of the hadicap for S/H. |

Just found this link. I recently bought 771 and was short off crew so i went out for an hour in a F2-3 one up. Now thats sailing. nearly as good as the SB3 but no one to shout at / be shouted at. Everyone should try it. |

Yep, I tried it from time to time but with F2-3 not more and without the kite. How are you hoisting the kite - are you keeping the rudder between your legs )) ? |

Yes, set the boat up so there is neutral helm, furl the jib and get the kite up quick, sit back and enjoy. The drop is the same . good luck. |

Don't really need to furl the jib, three-sail trapezing (in F2-3) is really enjoyable! |
