Just thought that we'd start the 'bewl' rolling for this....

So, does anyone know the good, bad & ugly about local accommodation (there is a list of the Bewl Valley SC site, however more info on what's best would be helpful).

Also, who is planning on going (BTW, we are planning to) ?

Local campsite - http://www.caravancampingsites.co.uk/eastsussex/cedargables.htm
Local Bed and Breakfast's are at a village called Flimwell, just South of Bewl.

Does anyone know whats planned for Sat night? Anything going on at the club?

Stuart

Update!!

Having gone past Bewl today . . . Lamberhurst is very nice for those of you looking for a B and B, there are also 2 or 3 pubs/restaurants should there not be anything going on at the club.

Stuart.

Hi people,

My blood is too thin for camping, and like look and sound of Lamberhurst, Is it worth block booking so that we are not disappointed and can party and stagger back?

I am sure the Bongo could be parked in the pub care park?

Prob well worth looking into, and i have a week of work which involves passing Bewl in a couple of weeks so can organise something if that is what people would like? There are plenty of ideal places for the Bongo either at Bewl or in Lamberhurst!!

Stuart.

I don't think we will be allowed to park our camper vans at Bewl, I think there are pretty strict rules and regulations about camping.

Hi All!!

We have been in touch with Bewl now and can now provide you all with a bit more info.

- Camping is allowed in a field adjacent to the club
- NOR and SI's should be available shortly, they're likely to be similar to normal i.e. 12.00 start Saturday for 3 races, 10.30/11.00ish Sunday for 3 races, although these may not be back to back as there is also club racing.
- Windward/Leeward courses Saturday and Sunday, although they are open to suggestions if we'd like something different.

We intend to book somewhere in Lamberhurst for food Saturday night, please let me know if you would like to come along to give me a rough idea on numbers. The bar and galley at the club are open until 7ish, if we want them to stay open later it can be arranged with a bit of notice (they use paid staff so would need to organise it, hence the easier option of going to Lamberhurst).

Hope that helps!!

Stuart and Zoe.

Hi all the Bewl web site is a bit out of touch. To save anyone else waisting their time the George and Dragon is being refurbished in Oct so has no availability. The Chequers Oast has a wrong number and the Mill house was sold about five years ago to some one who does not do B&B, all in Lamberhurst. Stu do you have the number of the Lime House pub? Lloyd.

as a local I can recommend for supper ( no accommodation ) - The Brown Trout very near club in Lanberhurst - good value menu fish and chips, steaks etc prob around £10 for a main course - The Swan also at Lamberhurst which is a really nice gastropub but more expensive with mains around £18
per head

Bewl have asked whether we want food provided in the evening and the bar kept open (if so how late?). I guess from the above that most people are thinking of going to the pubs but here is what you are missing.
On the other hand, if you would like to eat at the clubhouse let me know (either post here or email me on cfsnook (at) ntlworld.com). If there are enough numbers i will ask them to organise the caterers and will ask for the bar to be kept open. Please indicate your preference as we need to reduce the menu to 2 starters and 2 mains. (This may mean you don't get your choice).
Cheers
Colin

Please find attached menus as requested for unconfirmed booking for 20th October 2007.
I am advised by the galley that numbers will need to be confirmed at least three days prior to the day to prepare food and it would be appreciated if you would limit your choice to two starters and two main courses to make preparation easier.

Anyone else be staying at the club Friday night, probably wont get there till 11 ish.

Food there also sounds good for Saturday if they get it sorted.

First race on Saturday shouldn't be before 12:00.

Get there for 10:00 - gives you an ample 2 hours to get ready and have a cuppa.

Hi All,

UPDATE!! Camping at Bewl is not possible now!!! and the club will close at 7pm!!
However, there is a campsite very close to the sailing club called Cedar Gables with plenty of room. Their number is 01892 890566, booking is prefered, but not essential.

I have been told that due to there being no staff available at the club Saturday the club will shut at 7pm, therefore i have booked a large table at The Brown Trout. If anyone wants to come along who hasn't said so far then let me know before Saturday morning please. They will have the rugby on if on normal tv!! ie-ITV, which i think it is. I have booked the table for 6.30 so that we're finished for kick off!!

Stuart and Zoe.

We have about £300 worth of Pro-Am vouchers to hand out. Now assuming we don't sail on saturday, we need to do something to allocate Pro-Arm partnerships for the Sat night / Sunday.

Any thoughts on shore based competitions / races. The weather will be nice - but no wind.

Crystal ball gazing... the high centre is forecast to move into the north sea tomorrow giving an east or SE gradient wind over Kent. Gradient wind speed is expected to be only 10 KT so wind speed at the surface is likely to be around 5 KT from the E or SE i.e. not much but it may be possible to race - especially since there's no tide to worry about.

RE Pro Am in case of no wind : You could get everyone to take a paddle or some similar implement that will serve the same purpose i.e. use man power instead of wind power - that way at least everyone gets out on the water....?
