In light airs I have a job to get the two top full length battens to pop over when I tack or gybe ( they set OK on port tack, but not on starboard). I've got the little hex key provided, to adjust the battens, but it just seems to turn endlessly , in either direction with no noticable effect on batten length.
Any ideas?

Hi.

The batten tension should be just enough to hold the battens in, ie they should be securely in the batten pocket with no end to end movement, but not tight, if too tight they will not flick over easily. The Allen screw should tighten or loosen the tension, may be worth loosening until the batten has a bit of movement, and then tighten until the movement stops.

Assuming the tension is ok the way to get them to flick across during tacks is to put a bit of cunningham on, I normally put a small amount on and the give the main a pump to check the batten flicks across, if not then i put a bit more on until it goes, a little bit of kicker will also help. Obvious this problem will occur in light winds so you don't want to overdue the cunningham and kicker tension.

Hope that helps, let me know . . .

Stuart.

Hi
I am a newbie to the Buzz, but I find that in light airs, if the battens don't pop in place after a tack and I don't want to play around with the kicker/cunningham, I just centre the main and manually hold the beam down until they pop. It has worked so far...
