Here's one for the Technical guys!

Could the Class rules be modified to allow the main sheet set up to work off the boom with a rear sheeting set up.

Looking at what's on the boat, I dont think much (if anything) would need to be spent to achieve this as there are more than enough blocks to use. The query would be what to do with the kicker?

An option would be to go back to the original Buzz set up where the kicker came out each side. Otherwise, an adaption to the centre tower may be appropriate.

The advantages of rear sheeting are (and these are just 2):
* Lighter sheet loads
* You dont bury the transom when tacking/gybing by having to go so far back.

Having just converted my other boat - a Blaze (from the same original stable Topper/White Formula) there really are acres of room in the cockpit!

Anyone else any views?

I may be having a go at this over the next couple of weeks, I'll post some pics once it's done. Thinking about something like this

for the kicker...

Please remember, this change is not class legal so you are at risk of being protested out of a race, even if club racing, depending on the knowledge and mentality of other club members and what results you get i guess.

Personally I do not like off the boom sheeting and it is only useful if the crew does the main, although others may say i'm just old fasioned!! The other issue is that you are more reliant on the kicker, main sail power is controlled by the main rather than the kicker in light to medium winds and this is not so effective with off the boom sheeting.

I have looked at the type of cleat you have pointed out for the kicker, obviously i was thinking about mounting it in addition to the main cleat assembly, but this does give another fitting to get in the way. I also wasn't sure about what is under the deck for a secure fixing.

Out of interest what are your reasons for wanting off the boom sheeting?

Let us know what you decide/ how you get on.

Stuart.
