I am new to the Boss and i live in the shetland islands (if you know where that is) It is the best place to sail a boss as wind is plenty and constant. Now to get to the point, is i alright to sail the Boss in the mixed dinghy class which includes fireballs, flying fifteens and tazars? I am unsure of this as i am the first person in shetland to have a Topper Boss and due to the speed of the boss im unsure if i will be allowed

I too am new to the Boss, but down at Shoreham (in sunny Sussex) we compete in a mixed handicap fleet, which includes Fireballs, Javelin, 505, RS400, Musto Skiff. I don't know what kind of course your club sets but we race a triangle, sausage, triangle, sausage course which seems to be reasonably fair between the asymmetric and conventional spinnaker boats. If you should happen to be this far south with your Boss, do get in touch, we have now got a couple of Bosses racing regularly and would welcome more.

Wow, the Shetlands? I guess your summer evening races run until 11pm. Good to hear of another Boss sailing. I agree with Mike, mucking in with the Fast Handicap is no problem - at least you get clear air at the front. The only problem is if the race officer sets a wide triangle which can make the reaches a bit tight for the kite in more than 10 knots. Have fun! |
