Really nice to see a very good turn out for the Broadstairs Nationals - 27 ISOs - one coming all the way from Holland - and two BOSS.
Real shame the weather didn't co-operate - first time anyone can remember since a Gala event some 6 or 7 years ago.
Saturday, for those who weren't there, was blowing 30 to 35 mph with gusts up at 38 all day. This was followed by Sunday and Monday with next to no wind and consequently only two races sailed.
Still, life has it's compensations and Team Broadstairs well and truly rose to the occasion with some excellent organisation on and off the water..... The evening entertainment was just one big burst ..... start to finish !
So - many thanks to Ben and Sue for the liaison and organisation, MC Sue for some masterful entertainment and the Galley Slaves for producing some really good meals. Many thanks to the whole Team - we can thoroughly recommend Broadstairs as a venue !! Thanks again folks.

So who went for a blast on Saturday? 25 knots should be about the upper end of usable wind range for a full-sized crew. |

No one went out, there were some pretty big gusts coming through and i dont think anyone wanted to wreck their boat the first day of event

Yes, absoloutly too much wind on Saturday and not enough on either Sunday or Monday. The race Officer, Ted Temple and his assistant, Doug Spooner did a grand job in not bowing to the pressure of trying to get enough races for a Championship, it clearly wasn't going to happen and I didn't hear of any complaints... What now?? I did hear of perhaps Weymouth or Restronguet becoming the Nationals. Is this true?? Who is to decide? |

I think you and the Essex boys / old codgers, just want to forget!
Well done to Broadstairs for an excellent event even though lack of wind.
We are debating the venue for the postponed nationals, but I am sure that it won't be an additional event to the circuit.

Yes, ill add my thanks to all for a great weekend. As our first event of the circuit, the sailing may have left a little to be desired (though respect to the race officers for all they did in difficult situations) but we had a great weekend and fully intend to particpiate as much as we can in future events.
As far as rescheduling the nationals, my preference would be for Restronguet, as Weymouth will just be too soon after new addition to the family (new crew given a few years!!).
As far as other points for discussion from the weekend, will also look at a few local clubs in the northwest as time allows - Coniston, Ullswater, maybe even Blackpool!!! both from the point of view as our own events or tagging onto multi class events.
Hope to see you all again soon
Cheers

My preference would be Weymouth for a re-run of the Nationals. The only problem with Restronguet is it's in August and bang in the middle of holidays. In our case we've alread booked to do Dartmouth week at a time when we didn't know about Restronguet. Any other views?
On the Broadstairs front, we really enjoyed the weekend despite only getting two races in. You've got to hand it to Broadstairs SC. they've got to be one of the best clubs around for putting on socials and dinners!
Have just got back from 3 capsizes in one race. Forgotten how to sail when it is windy.

The Nationals mk2 are at Weymouth on 9/10 July. They have spent £8 - £9 million on the new Olympic facility and we are lucky enough to be among the first to use it. All we need now is a fair wind and lots of ISOs. |
