Ok so there has been a lot of talk from the ISO class regarding training and I obviously need to pull my finger out! The Buzz class are also welcome to come along for a laugh. Also the Spice fleet seem to have woken up, so why not include you guys as well?

Datchet Water ok for everybody?

I'm going to ask them which weekend is available from the following list:
24/25 May
31 May / 01 June
28/29 June

Any problems or questions?

The coach will be me, assisted by top sailors in all fleets (this is correct isn't it you top sailors in all fleets!!!!!!)

Further details as and when I get them.

There will also be training on the two days before the Eurocup event on Lake Maggiore, Italy.
I am hoping to arrange for some sort of training the day before the nationals based at Paignton SC as part of Torbay week).

Location looks good, however 28/29th is the only date of the above that we could potentially make, again due to prebooked commitments.

Thanks Pete

Sounds good as we already booked that weekend off for the TASA event at Queen mary.

Word on the street says that TASA are struggling and some events may not be going ahead?

Datchet is good for us too if the buzzes are still welcome?

Bryn

I have sent an email to Datchet with our wants etc. Awaiting a reply. The Boss lady was more than helpful on the phone today.

In the mean time, I have set up a dedicated page on the ISO website. (link from the top table on this page...)
http://www.isoracing.org.uk/events_results/coaching.htm

The training is for ISO, Buzz & Spice classes as per the title of this thread.
There is no limit to the number of boats that want to attend (I said to Datchet there would be about 15 in total!)

It is aimed at beginners to intermediates as always. The top guys should know what they are doing wrong by now and be able to sort it themselves.

Please keep checking back with the message board and the dedicated page for news updates. Looks like I had best book the weekend off work for this one!

RE: TASA - don't hold your breath as the true organ grinder (Emma) has had to step down due to other commitments.

All this demand for training and I've yet to receive any official confirmation of people coming! I have yet to book the weekend off work - shall I bother?

Pete

If you are concerned at lack of numbers then would it be an idea to maybe email all association members to drum up some interest? Seems to me that you would only know about this training day if you are a regular on the forum which I am sure alot of people still deem as being a bit geeky. It would be a shame to miss out on this through lack of candidates.

Good thinking Nigel.

Hi all,

We (me and Laura) should be there too - given it's round the corner from us. Just need to get the towball fitted to the car so we can actually bring the boat...

Looking forward to it.

We have'nt been to any events this year (Crews GCSEs and his sailing committments at felixstowe) but are looking to get to the training (and hopefully some of the later events this year). We probably won't do the meal as staying with friends but hopefully will manage a beer or two....

Regards

That's 4 boats signed up. Excellent news for those that have as they will get more out of the weekend.
Are there any more takers? I did tell Datchet there would be about 15 boats - ISO, Buzz & Spice (because there was a lot of talk about training).

Training event possibly being relocated FROM Datchet either:
- Whitefriars SC (Near Swindon) More picturesque
http://www.wfsc.co.uk/

- King George SC (North London - Enfield) - bit of a concrete bowl, but good water.
http://www.kgsc.org.uk

- Poole - Very picturesque - but more expensive and further for practically all bar one to travel.

The reason being - Datchet are wanting to charge us a lot of money to hold the training there and as a class association, we cannot justify such ridiculous costs. Our contacts at the above venues can save the class about £250 and save the trainees training fees around £20 per boat.

The date will not change however. Still 28th & 29th June.

Please voice your preference.

I vote King George SC.

We vote for King George as it would be the only one we could really make logistically.

We need to drop the boat off midweek, crew comes back from france friday night, then drive to the training sat morning in my towbar less car! We'd definately have to miss poole out if it went there im afraid.

Hi Pete
If you are looking for other places to run training, then maybe Calshot could do something.
The Club can cope with small numbers, or the Activities Centre can provide more space for launching and on land coaching as well.Between the two we could sort out something for you. Do you have a rib you could bring?
Camping and perhaps B&B can be sorted too.
Would like to help out if we can.

Hope this is useful to you, if not see you on the water at Calshot in July if you are coming.

Dave

Calshot would be nice, we could do our own 'Round the Island' race!! but can make other locations as well so will go with the general concensus.

Dave, was that you leading Colin round your course on Sunday? Sorry if we got in the way but had to stop for a rest after a high speed run & a few airborne moments from the other side of Soton Water. Thought I could see another ISO in the distance so came to investigate

Hi Nigel
Yes that was us. No you did not get in our way. Colin is breaking in a new crew, so I will have to watch myself if I want to stay in-front when they are up to speed!!
Did the same to Rob and Barry the other day as well, Better gloat while I am still in front, it wont last long.
Where are you based?
We are doing a race to Lymington and back on 31 May,If you fancy that.
Come on round and join in if you want, Rob and Barry are here some times as well.
If we can sort out a day or week end together we should have a good little fleet going.
We could have our own training day.
Dave

The best training I need at the moment is time on the water so a race to Lymington would be a good start! I'm based at Thorney Island (Emsworth) but don't have anyone to sail the boat with there. My friend Tim who I did last years Nationals with lives in Cowes so I haven't sailed with him since and I have just one other friend who can sail who lives in Warsash so I have to tow the boat over there to get him out on the water! I'll see if I can get one of them to crew/helm for the 31st.
Will there be other slower boats or is it just ISO's driven by you professionals?

Hi Nigel
Hope you can make 31st. It is about 16 miles in a straight line to Lymington
The start is off the Club line at 10.00. Depending on wind and forecast it my be 10.30
The finish is off the platform at Lymington. We then make our way to Lymington Town sailing Club for lunch.
After lunch when the tide has turned we start again, off of the platform and race back to Calshot.
The finish there is at the three legged post off the Club in deep water.
You have to stay on the main land side of the red channel markers, so the safety boats have a chance of seeing you.
The race is open to any boat faster than a RS 200.
There is a couple of dart 15 and 18's that go.
It is fun to beat them over the water on the run back. I have got back in just over 40 mins before.
That was very quick!! My GPS showed max speed of 26 knts av 16 knts.
There is a car going to take clothes so you can change for lunch, no wet gear in the bar.
Or if you want a pub lunch there is a beer garden close by in the pub next door. They don't mind wet people.
If you want to bring your boat round before then, you are welcome to do that.

Any one else fancy a go.

Dave

King George SC is 90% going to be the venue for this one Mike.

Other training events and details for this year can be found on the ISO website:

Just wanted to say thanks to Pete, Bob, Josh, Luke for the training this weekend and the time and effort you put into it. Myself and Ben learnt so much about the boat and our general sailing....fantastic........I have just about enough energy to type this and then thats it !

Thanks also to all at King Georges who ran the safety cover, captured boats arriving at pontoons slightly quickly and were very welcoming.

We hope to get to some events but the Inlands at least is in the diary.

regards

Neil/Ben 603
