Hi I have just aquired a 6/7 Spice which generally looks in good condition, but is taking in quite a lot of water in the hull. I've taken off and sealed jib and spinnaker fittings, space frame side mounts, rudder mount and also looked inside dagger casing and removed the gasket. Any ideas ?? have i missed something really obvious ??

Check the pole hole. There might be a few little holes where the pole runs through the hole - gouge out and re-fill.
Also check the gunwales all the way round including the transom.
Check the hatch and bung rubber ring seals.

not forgetting the dagger board slot where the two hulls meet. A goodly dollop of bath sealant under the lip often sorts it out.

Final way to locate leak, apply very low pressure to hull through drain hole (vacuum cleaner on blow), use a soapy solution and apply to all hull fittings and joints in the hull. From the sound of it I would suspect the dagger board casing. Has this happened after capsizing? Chris. |
