Just been informed of the following:
Those of you heading to Garda or know people who are going: People driving in mainland Europe should be made aware that Italy, Spain and Austria now demand that all car drivers carry reflective jackets/waistcoats [to EU standard BE EN 471 1994 Class 1 or 2], to be worn in case of breakdown or accident even when setting up a warning triangle. Failure to comply could bring on-the-spot fines of £95, £62 and £20 respectively. It is recommended that 2 such items be carried in the passenger compartment. Neither driver nor passenger may get out of their vehicle on busy roads before putting on the jacket/waistcoat.
There are notices at the Eurotunnel advising people of this requirement. Full details of the compulsory equipment required in the different European countries can be found in the AA website at http://www.theaa.com/advice_information/index.html and http://www.theaa.com/staticdocs/pdf/allaboutcars/overseas/aa_compulso ry_equipment.doc
