I just wondered what you all feel of the plug in wings on the ISO.

It always struck me as a nice simple way of adding some performance equalization… but no other classes seem to have followed suit.

Am I missing something, are they rubbish or a great idea that everyone else missed?

I like them, but I feel they could be designed lighter and of a better profile - more like the 49er wing profile i.e. thinner with a hooked yet smoothly rolled edge to hike over and stand on.

I like them too. Much better (safer, easier to use and better looking) than loads of tubes of scaffolding.

I like them, seem comfy and not dangerous. I think they look neat to. The only problem with them is that you can't lift the boat up by the wings to move it off the water quickly ie if sailing at Downs with the steep shingle beach and waves.

They are great if you can use them , they keep you dry and are very stable for the crew and comfortable for the helm.
welcome to try mine out with hannah if you like

Thanks Neil. I'd like an ISO but Hannah and I really arn't big enough for one.

A friend has just told me that there was an ISO with racks bullt sometime. He remembers seeing it at the dinghy show one year.

Does any one remember be this or know anything about it?

The racks you speak of Ian were a prototype to see what the ISO looked like and what peoples thoughts were about them. The majority didn't want them either because of looks and or safety. Scaffolding on a size of boat such as the ISO doesn't gel well. Scaffolding on a L5000 looks and works fine though.

Ian

I weigh in at 185kgs and won the nationals in an average force 4 for the event
Pete and Annie weigh in at 130kgs and came 2nd at the nationals with wings on.
so dont feel you are too light as you weigh more than 130 kgs!

Thanks Pete... it was news to me.

Neil, were 120ish which is why we stick with the 29er. Its the strong stuff that I enjoy and its no fun if your struggling in an over powered boat. I've seen Pete and Annie at work so I know that it can be done... just not sure Hannah and I would want to work so hard ourselves
