TelBoy, what kind of size file do u reckon u can fit on2 the website?
We have made a 497mb compressed file from about 3gb video. Do we have a website that can manage this?

You'll need to make it smaller than 497MB - no-one's going to download a file of that size. It tok me 4 hours at the crack of dawn on Saturday 
We just need a small size window - maybe WMV format would be better than MOV? Anyway, I'm sure Ginge knows what he's doing. We can send out CDs of the full size video if people request them |

497MB is a tad too big! The server would die. Also don't forget we have bandwidth and file storage space limits. With this file, it would be crippled and we would have to pay more.
Crop it into a couple of 30 sec clips if you want. Make them about 5MB each and I think that may be fine. You can always store the files in seperate servers ie your own personal webspace that everyone has when they sign up to an ISP such as Wanadoo / blueyonder / btinternet etc. The website can then link to them.

i think we will make a mini website that will link 2 the main 1 2 store the file, mayb split it in 2! our internet downloaded the file in 5 mins, mind u we do av a super connection. the vid is 13 mins long and took a w3eek 2 edit, we'r reluctant 2 cut it up! |

No real need to make a mini website. Just provide links from the current site to the filenames wherever they are stored.
Don't make work for the sake of it! Concentrate on polishing up the excellent video you have. Make a DVD and sell them off for a £5 - generate income for the class. |

The video sounds like it turned our very well - congratulations to you all :- )
If you can get an UNcompressed DVD to me then I'll sort out the website side of things. We will need to do several versions to suit the connection speed of the users - from 'dial-up' at 56kbs up to a 2meg line.
PS I can do any digital film editing too.
Really looking forward to seeing this!
NB My current project ends on 22nd March so things are very busy right now! |

Yes, I guess we should first of all pay Ginge for his efforts - has this been put in hand Nick? Then I guess we can sell it for a nominal fee to cover the cost, as I suspect there's not much left in the class kitty.
What would people be prepared to pay? I am happy to pay something, even though I've got a copy on my hard disk already |

ginges services are £50 (friends and family discount), hes also sending me a high res dvd that can then be burnt and sent out to every1 who wants 1, at a price.

Yeah, count me in. Peter's away at the moment, but he's the man with the Boss chequebook - I'll remind him when I see him next. What price should we set? It's only fair that the Association charges a bit to cover costs
Nice to see Odmar is back with us, and the spelling in the 49er fleet is still up to scratch  |

Also, would be good to get a high res copy to watch, maybe even get some ideas on Boss boat handling, when available.
But then I guess that there is nothing beats time on the water. |
