Hi Alex,
Yes they are,
Heres the rules that apply
The following optional items only are permitted. (a) One compass, of any type, may be attached to any part of the boat or spars as long as the watertight integrity is not compromised.
and
(2) All electronic equipment, with the exception of time keeping equipment and electronic compass that may also indicate heading and wind shifts, shall be banned.

Cheers guys, i found the rules but wanted to be 100% sure!
It doesnt make sense to me that many classes allow equipment such as tackticks which tell you a lot of things (headers/lifts/angles) but dont allow GPS (ie live speed indicators) Surely the benefit afforder by say a tacktick is far greater than a speed indicator? Anyone know the reasoning behind this?
Going off on a tangent....I quite like the idea of a gps on each boat, at the end of the day the fleets data can be plugged in and replayed so crews can see replay whole races in the bar and see which side paid, fleet tactics overall etc. A potentially great learning tool!!
Neil, how have you mounted your tacktick as were trying to work out the best method....options are to screw the mounting plate onto spaceframe centre section or get a proper bracket...but which one!!?!?! Looking forward to the Hoo! Alex
