As the ONLY Iso to attend the Inlands it was not only slightly depressing but also rather embarrasing in that the club had gone to such length to accomodate us within their regatta weekend and noone turned up to take advantage.
Now we understand that there will always be reasons for people not attending as is the nature of life, as well as the "credit crunch" and we accept that between 4-9 boats at any event is considered a good turnout-even if it does lead to very good close racing, but for only 1 boat to make the trip is rather bad. The message board implied people were thinking of going and while not everyone uses the board to pass their thoughts/comments and things change, it does have a bearing on decisions. If we know there are 3-4 thinking/definately going we will take a chance on more being there on the day.

If low attendace (ie less than 5) continues i would think that it would make it very hard in future for the class to get venues for opens/inlands/events as clubs will not see it as worth while investment to run them.

Perhaps in future years events should be targeted at clubs with an ISO base? The Essex open was perhaps the most fun and close racing event we have attended and having 5/6 ISOs already there made for that.
I dont want to turn this into a "i couldnt't go because...." thread, but it is making us think harder about travelling to events.

Our thanks to Bala SC for accomodating us within the assymetric fleet this weekend, we had excellent conditions, 6 races instead of 5 and some fantastic racing amongst the local boats!

Hi Alex,

Sorry about this. It must be frustrating to travel so far to find no one else went. It is worrying, and I agree, embarrassing for the class. I think we have been a bit unlucky in the last year or so with some of the mainstays of the travelling fleet simultaneously moving out of the class.

We are already targeting the clubs with ISO's. Herne Bay had 4 local boats out on the water, Essex, 5+ and Calshot will have 3. However, i am open to suggestions of other clubs with active ISO's if you can find them. Unfortunately a lot of the fleet seem to sail at places that are unsuitable for holding an event. Maybe next year we should only select locations that have at least one actively racing ISO until the numbers have recovered a bit.

Colin

I am pleased to tell you that Essex Yacht Club now have 8 operative ISOs and our neighbouring club has one. I have discussed trying to put on 6 races but tidal conditions make it very difficult. It might just be possible in moderate wind with shorter races. We are happy to host an event next year. We need to pick the right tides however.
Look forward to seeing you Alex.

So I guess you are the new ISO Inland Champion? Congratulations. I still have the trophy but I will try to get it back to the class ASAP. Anyone from round here (Essex) going to the nationals who could take it?

Hi Lloyd,

As i have been your trophy courier in the past i could offer to do the same again if you like? I am at Tilbury for at least one day of each week so could meet you there?

Stuart.

Hi Stuart That is kind of you. I will give you a call if I don't find someone local ie Bruce. PS I don't think I have still got your mobile number can you text me? My phone went Pete Tong when I was away and I lost a lot of numbers.
To return to the point of this thread it is a shame to see the numbers so low this season. I notice that there has been no publicity on Y&Y this year either. Mind you in view of the numbers a race report might be counter productive.

We bought an ISO this Spring and are hoping to do the Nationals at Lee on Solent in September, if it isn't too windy (we've been falling in rather too frequently).

I can't find anything about the event, is it still on ? Who is planning to go ? How many races each day & how many to count ? Can we join the association at the event ?

Would appreciate some info. Regards Roger & Ranjit - ISO 674.
