Having been out of sailing for a few years I am in the process of deciding which type of dinghy to buy over the winter. Not familiar with the glut of new boats on the market, I'm pondering an ISO or similar does anyone have any advice? ISO, BUzz etc What the ideal crew weight would be, who the boat is suitable for etc. Any replies would be most appreciated!

Well you are asking the question on the ISO site - so guess what, ISO is the best option 
If you are very light weight / want parent / child boat - <10st then have a look at a Buzz. If you are 10st each or above - ISO. >15st each - then look at the BOSS - but there are also some light weight BOSS sailors who do very well too. ISO weight but want to twin string it - Spice.
Either way, get along to your nearest ISO club with your sailing gear - look at the results lists, they have the competitors clubs listed there - and get yourself a ride. A beer or two usually gets you a tour of the cans.

Hi,
I was in the same situation as you 5 years ago. I am heavy ( 95 kg) and my crew relatively unexperienced.
So I needed an easy boat, that you can sail single handed.
Tried
boss: too big need 2 good people
Buzz, laser 3000, 29er: too short for my weight.
Laser 4000: a real alternative
B14: a sensitive rocket
Laser 5000: like boss but heavier
49 er : very sophisticated, need 2 good people
I am changing my boat this year against ....another ISO. My crew and I love the boat and it really is not far from the top boats into the wind. Downwind the newer ones are faster.
