Can anyone please give a brief review, for a newcomer to the ISO, of the history regarding class builder/ Topper/ Rondar/ Wet& Windy. From my few dealings with W&W I get the impression that the relationship between the class association and the sole supplier is not a happy one.

Hi Mick

As of about March this year the ISO Class Association is it's own, non exclusive, Licencee.

Rondar are our selected boat builder and retail outlet for spares. Please contact Rondar for the main items - e.g. sails, mast. All the small bits - blocks, rope - may be purchased from a chandler of your choice. Sizes and types are on the web site under Rules, Regs and Specs.

If you have any trouble sourcing an item in a reasonable time please e-mail the details to me or other Committee Member for action - rather than posting here.

Look forward to hearing all is well - and seeing you on the water.

Thanks for that Bob, does that mean that we can now purchase sails/masts from W&W and Rondar to remain class legal, or indeed another supplier as long as they are Hyde/Super spars?
Do you think Rondar will put any resources into developing and promoting the class, as interest seems to be ebbing at the moment. Thats a shame, because second hand boats offer very affordable performance sailing. I am just wondering how much to invest in my old boat(645), as there are so many new designs on the market competing for space. None seem to offer significant advantages, maybe lighter more carbon etc, but if the ISO was updated it could see a resurgence - I think. We sailed the Lord Birkett at Ullswater last week (3 ISO's out) and will be at Filey regatta next week 18/19th if anybody fancies it ( 6 boats makes a class). Cheers Mick.

Where are you based Mick as a matter of interest - it sounds like you may be northern judging by the events you are attending. We are based at YDSC - Grimwith reservoir nr Grassington.

Without wanting to wander from the Class Review topic too much, we are doing Bass Week in our Buzz the first week of August, details at http://www.bassenthwaite-sc.org.uk/bw-info.htm . We're travelling up from Kent for it as well as for a few walks and a bit of cycling, it would be good to see some Northern Buzzes and ISO's there too.

Yes - you can buy from either Rondar or W&W - although of course buying from Rondar supports the Class Association directly.

Yes - we believe Rondar will work with us to further develop the Class - which is why we picked them.

Yes - we are having attendance limitations this year due to a load of coincidences coinciding

Great to hear of ISOs out at the venues you mentioned. Any race reports available ?? Reports are a key promotional tool what ever venue they relate to - Filey, Nationals, even Club racing results would be good for everyone to hear about to demonstrate the keen interest in the ISO in all forms of sailing.

Let us have your news to post - and then come show everyone what you can do at an event.

Cheers

Bob

Thanks for the replies. We are based at Halifax and sail at Yorkshire Dales opens and other northern venues. Grimwith is a great venue especially now their clubhouse is nearing completion. We sailed the windward/leeward open(boom snapped) and also the Grapple (some pics on their website). May be able to make it to Bassenthwaite in August but will have to check the dates as we were hoping to sail Ullswater Regatta which is sometime in August. Mick 645
