Hi,

We have just purchased a buzz, number 755. We have only been out on it a couple of times but we're really enjoying it so far! I (Rich) have done a far bit of racing in the past and Lizzy hasn't done much sailing before but is very keen and learning quickly. We are members at Bala SC and when we get a bit better will start club racing then after we gain a bit more experience, hope to see you all out on the curcuit.

Does anyone have any links for learning about asymetric sailing, (trimming/angles/hoist&drop technique etc) I have only really done singlehanded sailing in past, so the massive blue thing on the front is all new to me!

Cheers,
Rich & Lizzy

also I have rigged my boat exactly as described in the manual, are there any things most people rig differently to make life easier?

Hi there,

I could try and get you in touch with a local member. If not it will be best for you to come to an event or a training weekend. That way someone can check it's rigged correctly as well as advising on set-up.

The tuning guide came from Topper a long time ago and is a bit unecessarily complicated but the basic principles are correct.

I'll check the membership database and see who I can find. Send me your details, e-mail address on the website.

Glad you are enjoying it, haven't ever come across anyone who doesn't !

Great, another Buzz at the opens!! hopefully.

If you've any question feel free to email me at bailey dot stu at btinternet dot com and i'll try and help.

I've always been quite keen to sail at Bala rather than drive past it as i have often done in the past. Is there any chance of an open there, or do you have an handicap event that Buzzes can be invited to?

Thanks,

Stuart.

Thanks for the replies!

Everything works on the boat, I just wondered if things had changed since the publication of the topper manual. For example the cunningham arrangement seems a little crude, but it works! I will just wait and get more aquainted with her and get a few races in at the club and maybe start the curcuit next year, then we can see how the pros do it

As far as a meet at Bala SC goes, I only joined last saturday so I dont really know anyone there. But they had the Miricle nationals there this week so I dont see any reason that we cant host an open sometime. I will look into it further when we start racing there, its a place that everyone should visit at least once !

am sure you made the right move, it's the same thought I had when I was looking for a boat to sail with Debora.

Things have not changed much after the Topper manual was issued. One thing I do different from the manual is I don't let the jib halyard loose when wind increases. If I decrease the rake, I also pull the shrouds a pin lower, so I can keep the same rig tension... apparently in the past there have been some problems with masts breaking due to the combination of little rig tension, heavy crew on trapeze and big waves (Andy Holmes words).

I don't remember if the manual says it, but remeber to spray some lubricant on the pole and bow, it helps hoisting and dropping the kite. And ALWAYS put some tape on the metal bits were the kite could rip!

Hope to see you next year, if I manage coming to the Nationals or EuroCup... bring your boat if you come to Italy on holyday! (This is an invitation to everybody!)

Paolo

There will be a few of us a Roadford if you fancy a trip down to Dartmore at the Bank holiday weekend coming up ? I'm sure we will be able to answer all your questions and you'll learn lots on the water ?

Nearest members are Chester and and Lydney as far as I can make out.

Hi

We hope to make it down for at least two days racing if that's OK. We would certainly like to camp on Friday night if allowed to arrive late-ish (traffic dependant!).

It will be great to race against other Buzzes again and to see familiar faces as well as any new ones.

Mark and Jane

Mark, Jane,

We are arriving on the Friday as well, not sure what time but probably afternoon sometime. Should be a good weekend!!

We are also intending to do the Lee on Solent Regatta the following weekend (September 2nd/3rd). I think it's a fairly small but friendly regatta, do you fancy doing it too as it's nice and local for you?

It would be good to see other Buzzes and Iso's there as well.

Hi Jane & Mark
It will be great to see you at Roadford. Camping Friday night is fine - I've got about 5 plots on hold for the Buzz fleet at the moment. I'll get Roger to post directions to the lake next week, but it's very easy and only 10 mins once you leave the A30.

Rich & Lizzi - would be great to see you if you can make the trip. You'll get lots of help and advice from everybody so I'm sure you'd find the weekend worthwhile as well as fun!

Penny

Trust you're still enjoying the Buzz - you should have it cracked by now.....Assuming you've found somewhere to live - then you'll be planning to come and join us at Chew lake next April for our first event - 14&15 April - see Events Page soon.....
