Can I guess that you were on starboard when you were dropping the flappy thing?
If correct, possibly even if wrong, it is the bottom downhaul patch catching on the corner of the gunwhale and the kite chute space frame.

Solution - get the crew to pull quicker!

Pete

Hi Paul,

I have that problem too! Fast crew work certainly helps.
My Buzz is number 442!
All the best, Ken

Due to the fact yours was dropping fine in the morning I am not really sure this is of much help however when we had a horrid time dropping at last years nationals in medium winds (trawled the spinniker 3 out of 6 drops - yuk, and I was working as hard as I could) Pete suggested it could be the halliard being twisted and suggested we properly 'walk' it out when packing/unpacking the boat. This did help and enabled me to avoid getting the patch caught (as described above) on the way in. We eventually changed the halliard altogether and dropping at the end of last season seemed to be much better. Only been out once this year but hopefully this will be a problem of the past.

A squirt of lube on all the blocks and on the pole may also help a bit. Also check the pole hasn't twisted.

Best wishes
Jane

While still learning to sail the Buzz, ive also noticed this and found that taking up the slack on the downhall side of the halliard before releasing the cleat meant i had no slack on the kite in the first few seconds of downhall, which has made all the difference. Give it a go. Tez.
