Looking at the Iso site there are a lot of design/branding suggestions being made to modernise (but not improve) the class.
What about our Spice?
Apart from the shocking colour and logo what would you change?
I'd like to change the kicker arrangement so it was more accessible/adjustable by the crew as for the 800/49er(easier to organise than a 3rd hand for the Helm?).
Lighter foils and rig would also help a lot on the performance front, although I realise that the carbon rig route is probably a step too far on the expense front, at present.
But finally what about the Iso metal racks? A real issue for Spice is lack of righting moment (not good for a boat designed for lightweights) retro fitting racks might make a real difference allowing us to make better use of all that power?
Surely that last point must provoke some sort of response from the Spiceworld?
cheers
Ian

Completely unrelated, but just wanted to say thanks for letting me borrow your Buzz main. Just give me a call if you want a sail in the 600, doesn't look like i'm going to be sailing it much at all this term.

Is it the same kicker arrangement as on the buzz? because whilst being in principle a good idea, whilst helming i found it far easier to attach it to the main and pass it to the crew. Or else maybe raising the sheeting angle a bit???
To really judge i think i'd have to have a ride!!!!
Cheers,
Alex

Hi Alex, glad you made use of the Buzz stuff & you are welcome to joint me in the Spice anytime - don't have a tel no to take up your offer on the 600 sadly, of offer that Spice ride.
Yep the kicker for Buzz=Spice. I've improved the sheeting angle but its the lack of a third hand to pull on the kicker fast while getting the main in and trying to head up quickly thats the issue. It would be good if the crew could help themselves to it easily and cleat it themselves. Current sequence is pass kicker to crew, crew pulls it on, struggles to cleat (due to being further forward of the main/kicker fixing than the helm), holds kicker on until helm retakes it and cleats. In that time you can get into some intesting trouble from other boats! Must study other class arrangements more closely. How does the 600 do it?
Cheers,
ian

The 600 has the kicker being led out to the rack and pretty much all of them apart from mine have a continuous system. I think on the spice it is probably best just to cleat the main off and pull the kicker on yourself. Or maybe if you look at the old style kicker system on the buzz which isn't continuous, but could be easier to cleat. Although possibly an expensive modification.
i can't think of any twin wire system which has a particularly easy system. i know it wasn't a great deal of fun crouching in to pull the kicker in on the 800 or 49er on a windy day.
i can be contacted at buzz407@hotmail.com (should really change that now!)
Cheers,
Alex

Hi Ian Im going to try a few new ideas for the spice set up at the training weekend based on the ISO at the the boat show. Spent the day yesterday chopping and changing things, had a few problems with the stereo but at long last its in, mounted vertically just in front of the dagger board case port side, there is a good six inches of space from the deck and the hull here . also meens the crew doesnt stand on it when getting a beer from the fridge.

hi.
i sail a contender and all my controle lines are lead out to the elastic of the trapease and they are all accesable. mayby you could atach your outhaul, down haul and kicker to the elastic of the crews trapease. it works for me and im nearly always flat wireing.
