Last night I discovered one of the reasons why my crews have difficulty getting the kite up and down... the pole is bent and sticks a bit.

It is bent at the bow (when fully extended) i.e. about a foot from the inboard end. Only a small amount (a few degrees?) but enough to make it stick a little. I doubt the sail would have done this? maybe someone tried to pull/lift the boat using the extended pole.

Has anyone else had this problem?
Is it possible to straighten poles? If so how?

cheers

Not heard of that one before - anyone else ????

Have you considered turning the pole around so that the bent end is outboard ? Might be the easy way out.

As for straightening it, trying taking it off the boat and bending it back like it was a mast - i.e. by working it slowly using a bouncing motion. Take your time.

Even if this does work think I'd be tempted to turn it around so that the bend doesn't have direct pressure on it.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Bob,
I tried to straighten but it didn't want to know and it looked like I would just make it worse so I gave up. However, I turned the pole round and adjusted the launcher so it can't quite go right in (as the bent bit would then stick in the bow hole). It is fine now and I don't think the slight bend at the tip will have any effect.
