I have recently been contacted by one 'Jeanne Horn' with a hotmail account about buying my Buzz. Jeanne proposed to send me a bankers draft for the cost of the boat plus an extra amount which he asked me to forward to a shipping company. Apparently this is a known scam which has been tried via the Laser site recently. Please be very careful if anyone wants to buy your boat but asks you to send on or return any money. If anyone wants more details I can forward the full warning from the laser site. Regards, Amanda Randall.
PS Buzz 568 still for sale! Great bargain for a genuine purchaser.

Can I just confirm that this is a very common scam and a problem whether selling a boat, car, or anything really!! Beware, although only a problem if you let your precious boat or car go before the cheque clears!!

Stuart.

Not quite all of the picture as a fraudulent cheque can be returned days after it has 'cleared' to your loss. See:-

True, but you can get confirmation of clearing, or get special clearance. Generally these scams are so easy to spot that no one should get to that stage hopefully. However, if you do the police have a department that just look at this type of scam and are interested in hearing from anyone who has experienced it.

Does that mean that I haven't won the Eurolottery then, or that the nice Negerian man isn't really going to send me £4.5M?

Sorry Dave, but that Nigerian bloke promised me the £4.5M before you (unless he has £9M in his account). I just have to post him my house keys and my address so that he can use the same key to open his safety deposit box in his local bank to get the money out for me.

Damn, I'll have to go back to that Iraqi general guy now. I had told him I already had a good deal, so I'd better explain that Pete beat me to it and grovel a bit. Should be OK.
