When beating in light winds (F1-2) I can not seem to get the top two telltales flying, they stall behind the leech. I have tried adjusting kicker tension, strops, but don't get the top two flying until the wind picks up. Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong/not enough of? |

Mast is too straight, kicker too tight, mainsheet too tight - the last two basically pulling the boom down too far and hooking the leech.
Battens could be too tight and therefore putting too much fullness into the sail and hooking it. If you are struggling popping the battens on the tacks, besides the tacks etc possibly being possibly dodgy, the battens could be too tight. Let them off two clicks on the webbing.
See you at the Nationals down at Restronguet where us ISO's will be joining in the fun.

In very light winds strops and mainsheet combination is usually the problem. You really need to have them long enough that when pulling the mainsheet you don't give any vertical tension. But be aware that if wind increases and you can't shorten the strops easily, you won't be able to bring your boom in enough... what I do, I usually keep the strops just a bit lower than optimal and ease a bit the sheet, trading a bit of pointing with boat speed. If wind increases, and I need more kicker, then the strops are OK and I can pull the main fully to the centre.

Thanks Pete & Paolo,
I will keep on adjusting as suggested. Can't make the Nationals but am planning to make the Multi Gala @ King George in Oct.
