just a quick note to say hello

- I've just bought an ISO from a friend, sail number 520 -

I've "traded up" from an old wooden GP14 - I've not been sailing long - and have spent most of my time in more conventional shaped dinghys so I'm a bit apprehensive about the ISO - (was made up when we got it to plane on Sunday though) on the up side I don't mind getting wet.

A question I forgot to ask - does ISO stand for anything?

not really into racing - as I'm really still learning to sail, I did crew for a mate in the Birkett Memorial in July - we had an absolute nightmare on the water but really enjoyed the experience.

Hello

Congratulations on your new purchase. As an iso sailor it would be good for you to join the class association as it not only promotes the boat but continues to try and improve it. But on a note which may help you a bit more immediately you could come along to one of Pete’s training sessions, I have not been on one personally but you always hear people raving about them. You could also enter an open meeting or two. I know you say you think you are not ready to race but our first meeting three years ago was the nationals at Portland were we finished last in every race but one when we came second from last. During the weekend the other competitors completely re rigged our boat and pointed out a few of our many mistakes. Our boat is now well rigged but people are still pointing out our mistakes.

In short it is a great class and the best way to learn how to sail the boat is to ask the people who know. Not forgetting checking out the hints and tips on the web site.

Please find the application for membership on the web site and come join us.

Rob and Barry.

ISO pronounced "eyeso" From the greek meaning equal.

It is not I.S.O.

Check out the ISO guides section of the website for help and advice. If your question can't be solved there, then post on this message board.

Pete

Oh, ho, ho - who's bored at work then...

Welcome aboard guys. Come racing - it's what the boat is all about for starters and as Rob set out so well above, the best way to get tips and tricks on sailing it. You'll get to know Pete pretty quickly and be making arrangements for one of his ace training sessions at your own water before you know it.

We started behind the back 4 years ago, went on several of Pete's courses ( he banned us in the end ) and now we're, how can I put this delicately - showing him our transom with reasonable regularity.

You were planing on Sunday ?? You're hooked ! See you at either Langstone or the Inlands.
