I am currently refurbishing my Boss - 778 (sail at Rutland SC) quite a few parts need replacing. This boat was radically changed by its previous owner (apart from the masthead kite conversion) so some parts aren't standard at all (there was no center main block and the rollover hoop bar removed) now contiolled via rigging on the transom. I have since refitted the centre mainblock but it is almost seized up and I'm not sure if its the right one, can anyone tell me whether the cunningham line should go through it and how? Can I refurb it? The stainless steel plates conecting the shrouds together fastened to the deck are bent upwards into a V shape can I get hold of replacements easily? Can anyone tell me the best place to go for Boss specific spares?

Would appreciate any helpfull suggestions.

If I remember rightly, that's Bazzer's old boat - a red one? When Baz had it, I remember he did a few non-standard things, and rigged it up like a 49er. There's nothing wrong with transom sheeting, there are quite a few boats converted this way, but it depends what you prefer - I don't think there's a lot in it. But I think under class rules, you have to have the centre jammer. The best person to talk to is Graham Eeles, and if you browse historic posts on this forum, you will find his number - I don't have it to hand. Failing that, I am sure Topper will still have some bits and pieces at less than extortionate prices. Why don't you try and get along to the training weekend on 25/26 February at Datchet, then you can get lots of tips and opinions from the horses mouths?

Thanks for the info, you are correct it is Bazzer's old boat so I knew that others had been modified in a similar way hence the questions on the web site. He sailed it without the centre jammer, but I managed to get the original (maybe modified original)from him and refit but am not sure whether I have all the bits and pieces assembled correctly, probably best get in touch with topper and ask about a new one. I have tried Graham Eeles in the past but never had a response so I gave up on that one. For your info there are another 4 Bosses at Rutland one is out every week and we get down every 2-3 weeks the other 3 are used less but all in reasonable condition. We won't have the boat ready for about 6 weeks so can't make Datchet and it's a bit of a trek. We did some ISO training with Pete 2 or three years back at Draycote is he involved in it? Do any of you intend on organising anything in the Midlands this year, we would like to get along to something but Family commitments make it difficult to travel long distance.

I'm not sure there's anything special about that jammer - I'll take a look next time I see the boat, but maybe your best solution is Topper. one thing - originally, it was the kicker that was fed back to the small cleat on the centre jammer, but it's true that some people have switched the kicker out to the racks and feed the cunningham back to the jammer. We tried it once, and didn;t get on with it, so went back to the original arrangement.
Good to hear there are some Bosses being sailed somewhere. Maybe you could get us the sail numbers of the ones at Rutland, and their conversion status (old/new rig, old/new mast, bow conversion).
Regarding Midlands events, I'm sure there would be some interest in going to Rutland - haven't been there for a while - is there another assymmetric event we could join in with?

Thanks for the info on the small cleat in the main block. Since we put the jammer back on the boat (we couldn't sail it without one)that's how we have had it set up with the kicker control on the racks, there is significant wear now on the underside of the Jammer assembly where the cunningham line runs through it and up to the small block in the jammer assembly but I guess that's to be expected, at least I now know how it was originally set up, presumably with the cunningham cleated on the deck a little way back from the mast foot to port?

I'll gather some info for you next time I get down to the club on the other Bosses, I'm sure there would be some events that we could join during the season, there are plenty other similar craft there, laser 4/5000's, 49ers etc

Sorry, I never got round to responding to your cunningham question. The cleat on the floor near the mast foot was used for cleating the jib furler on the original layout. With the new jib, there's no furler, so that cleat is redundant, but I suppose it blocks the bolt holes.
The cunningham is run out to the side rack, along with main shroud and rig tension adjustment (there should be 3 cleats each side for this). As I mentioned, some people have swapped the kicker and cunningham, but the 'traditional' way is as above
As for joint events, we are holding a one-day assymmetric event at Shoreham (near Brighton) on June 10th. It's a great place to sail, and will give you reservoir chaps some sea sailing experience - with wavey-type things....
On the Sunday, there is a long-distance race to Brighton marina and back (about 15 miles) and if the wind is in the prevailing direction, it normally gives us a nice 3-sailer one way or other.
Hopefully, we can get a few more Bosses along
