what do you recommend to wear on your feet? I'm really geeting fed up with wet boots - they stink and they're really not that comfortable - I was thinking of getting a pair of yachting wellies like the Ronstan ones...

- but I'm worried they might be a bit cumbersome, especially on a boat like the ISO where manouevrability is key?

From my experience (3 months crewing) I would advise against razor cut soles which seem to work fine on smooth surfaces but are dodgy on the rough finish on an ISO deck (as I found out). Personally I would avoid the Ronstan wellies because as you say they are cumbersome. I can't imagine leaping about the boat with a pair of those on my feet. Get ankle boots with moulded rough soles and put up with the smell.

Hi,

I used Typhoon dingy boots for a while, but have recently changed to Gill Trapeze boots - these give a much more secure feeling, especially on the sea - so they stink, just leave them outside to die !

Cheers

I use Gill boots. Best I've found so far. Razor cut soles. Been working a treat at the back end of 814 for at least 2 years racing near enough every weekend. Given them the occasional outing at the front end with no problem either.

They are really comfortable, easy to get on and off both in summer ( bare feet ) and winter ( dry suit ).

And the smell ? Good wash in fresh water after racing and leave on their heels to dry before the next day / week's racing seems to fix it with no problem.

Xtremity Wetsuit Boots. I also wear seal skin socks inside - these are nearly as expensive as the boots though (£20)

Pete, You really are going soft since you came down South of the Thames!!
I have used Razor cut boots for years, current ones by Aigle. Excellent grip and durability. As for smell, give them and your wetsuit a cold wash in the washing machine with two capfulls of Milton Steriliser or a couple of baby bottle sterilising tablets when it gets too bad. That kills the bacteria that cause the smell.

Cheers
