Next year'sEurocup is now confirmed. It is at La Rochelle, where the French would have held the Olympic sailing events, 4 days racing 25/28 July, with registration on 24 July.

There has already been much interest shown for this event and I'm sure it will be popular. All Topper assymetric's are invited.

sounds excellent - thanks for inviting the Bosses too!
Hey, do you think the club would mind if we roped in another minority twin-wire class to get the numbers up? I'm thinking that it might be worth approaching the Laser 5 tonners......

Pork Pie Eater - Why don't you ask the opposition to see if they are interested. If you get some real interest I'll ask the French, who I am sure will be accommodating.

The information arrived only a few days ago on our Forum .
As Spice are one off the most invole boat in our skiff race organisation ,then the anser was very fast .
At this moment 1 ISO said he will come . Some other ISO sail very well .So I am sure more will be there ( As I know , there is nothing important at this date in France ) .
For sure some buzz also .
BOSS : I only seen one sailing . So ?

Alain

Hi Alain - from the Breizhskiff.com page it looks like there are at least 17 ISOs and also 17 Buzz. Do you know how to contact them all and invite them to come along ??

Hi Bob
I will suggest 2 methods
1° With Breizhskiff
In the toppic "forum" you register you
Then after if you go on the toppic "Skiffeur" you will get all the email address .

2° Caev.fr
Forum
Generale
First toppic is now "Eurocup ISO in La Rochelle " . It was created by Vincent Lemanessier (Spice boy )

Also Caev is the French company for topper . You could get in contact with them . ( at this moment this is the boat show in Paris . So they are perhaps not avaliable )

Bests regards.

The Blazes don't usually join the other Topper fleets. However, if you can persuade a number of other Blazes to come as well, I am sure we could extend the invitation.

Hi
We are interested in going. Any idea of how many Buzz's are thinking of being there?

We have just bought Buzz 963.

We were there in 2005 for Tornado Worlds, so may be able to help (informally) with questions. I'll peel off the PARIS 2012 sticker they forced us to stick on the cat and substitute it with a "Weymouth 2012" one. Should get us of few ocs's!

Seriously. its a great place to sail, very well organised, very pretty town, lovely beach and great panninis from the beach cafe.

We drove down with 1 overnight stop, but came home in 1 go.

Last year Norfolk Line were doing brilliant deals (open ended flexible returns) - but that was for a Winnebago and Tornado, which was very long and high.

Hi Stuart
Last time in LaRochelle we spent the week in the car park adjoining the sailing club in a Winnebago. No one seemed to mind, however there is an official municipal caravan/motorhome park about 800 yards away along towards the end of the harbour wall (between harbour and beach). Our friends did book a campsite which is near and didn't find it too bad. Others booked local hotels without difficulty and had no problem finding another when asked to leave!!

The French have tended to all take their summer holiday starting (if I remember correctly) on 1st August, so accommodation for end July will be easier to find.

We sail at Minnis Bay, but in the winter I race a Laser at Westbere Lakes, near Canterbury. There's a chap there called Steve Restall who I plan to harass for tuning tips!!!

Steve, I'm not really that much futher forward strangely enough, I assume from the club website that it's on the Minimes peninsular, but we talking marina, nearer to the town or on the south, the beach side ? The pdf download map on the site you mentioned doesn't open or download ! Another question, is there car parking at the club ?

Hi Kym,

Not far from me then at Minnis Bay, I sail on the Medway where we have 7 Buzzes, Steve Restall is normally at Downs Sailing Club where they have about 10 i think.

I've got Buzz 1027 up for sale if you know anyone looking for one, i've now got Buzz 797.

Thanks for the info on La Rochelle, i must get organised soon!

Stuart.

Chris, I am sure there is ample parking - It was going to be the French Olympic site for sailing. I thought when I looked at the map, that I could see the club clearly. However, short of sending them an email I can't add any more.

Hi Steveb
I have a couple of maps of the area plus probably the best one, which was used as a table mat at the local Creperie!

What you are looking for is Les Minimes (very Austin Powers!).

It is to the east of the bay, directly south of La Rochelle. It is signposted, but basically do not head for The Old Town. If you look on any map, to the south of La Rochelle you will see a "V" shape which is the marina. This is where you need to go.

The car park area is huge and the boat parking area will be expanded to suit the number of competitors.

One word of advice. Do not run low on fuel when leaving the autoroute. I think we drove for 45 mins on empty! The petrol stations in Minimes are only open to Brits in daytime ( you need a special fuel card after closing).

To summarise after leaving autoroute, long straight "A" road, then after 40 mins (at first major junction) turn left!

I think we clocked 454 miles.

Good luck!

Kym

Hi,

I can suggest to ways to reach La Rochelle, where I use to spent summer holidays every year, On the Isle of Ré..

1st: Paris -> Poitiers -> La Rochelle (many huge supermarkets with gasoline at this entrance)

This "autoroute" costs a lot, and is the normal way used by parisians to reach the atlantic coast (overcrowded on week-end)

2nd: West coast: Reach Caen, then Rennes, Nantes, to La Rochelle.
It will cost you the half price, and the trffic is lighter ( and landscape much more attractive!)

The choice could depend on the place you cross the Channel..

About places to spend the night with a "motorhome", why not try the Isle of Ré? It's about 45 min from The Minimes on summer, and offers GREATS places to sleep.

It's about 70euros (50 pouds) to cross the bridge 5 times with a car, and I think 17 euros for once.

See you there !

Hi

Buzz 1027 will be going - ferry book via internet on LDLines (took over route when P&O finished) from Pompey to La Havre - seemed quite reasonable compared to others. Letter sent to campsite as well but not had any confirmation - has anyone else had campsite confirmation??

We are really looking forward to this event and hope the bad taste left after the Nationals doesn't put anyone off - remember how much fun other events have been.

Pete - are you planning to do something similar for the Eurocup as you did for the Nationals so people can register their intentions to attend - it was really good to know how many boats were planning to turn up and much easier to use than trawling through the posts on the message board, if so any chance of adding names as well as boat numbers (give and inch and they want a mile...). Oh I guess I will join the others congratulating you and Annie on your victory, hurray, and while I am at it well done to Simon and Penny too, always good to have new names on the Buzz cup).

Jane and Mark

Lloyd, the cheapest crossing I could find was on Norfolk lines. Cost me £164 including trailer. Even accounting for the extra milage this is still cheaper for me even though I live near Portsmouth where there are more direct routes!

There is a useful little map of the Club area and camp site at
http://www.tourisme-larochelle.com/en/plan/index.htm#, it looks like it could be about a 15 min walk. Also the camp site seems to close ish to the main town area for restuarants etc.

Our French counterparts have a good long dialogue going on the Breizhskiff site about the Eurocup :-

http://www.breizhskiff.com/forums/index.php?topic=4285.0

If your French is a bit limited, copy and paste to

http://babelfish.altavista.com/

It gives a reasonable idea of what the conversation is all about.

There's a clearly a lot of enthusiasm for the event - so let's encourage some more from all sides of the Channel

I'm a fan of www.bablefish but not quite sure it always gets it right - here's an excerpt as translated:-

'Then there, is not necessary to dream. The organization on water was extra, the qualified committee of race and always in the blow. On the other hand, the lack of wind did not convince that the 15 daily knts was assured. With ground, madoué, which catastrophe. A hold exigue which ends in a walk (which discovers) on mud bath (I there personally entered to the hip) Of the dressers etic. and of the entées/sorties of the surging and often unpleasant port prfois... Live the water level Olympique!'

Mmmmm.....
