Hello,
Does anyone have any suggestions for the following tale of woe?

Just taken my second-hand Buzz for it's first sail, and ended up in the water (as you do).... on righting discovered that the boom had come out... the nylon webbing around the boom that attaches to the kicker had snapped. The strap is still riveted to the boom, but it's snapped where the metal ring attaches to the shackle... right between the "p" and "e" of "Topper"!!!

Does anyone have any suggestions??... Otherwise it's a call to Topper and Super Spars.
Thanks in advance.

Never known a webbing strap to break. Have known the poxy metal rings to snap though - Topper really should put bigger guage rings on.

Nip along to your local car spares shop or car dump and see what they have in the way of seat belt webbing. Re-rivet using a big washer to spread the load and especially if you use a stainless rivet - put a bit of Duralac in the hole and on the rivet before fitting. Saves the electrolytic corrosion around the rivet hole.

Make the strap as tight as you can as it really helps to get boom centre - you might find stitching the ring to the centre helps stop it sliding side to side.

As Pete says - as fatter ring would help - but sounds like your straps have broken through a lot of use and not much TLC.

That's a first, has it rotted ?

The material is from a topper toestrap (any of the same width will do), take a length of material and the old strap to a sailmaker to make new one.
