My boys have managed to book time off work this year to do the nationals. This will be the first event they will sail, so we're not too sure what we need to have/bring with us and what fees we have to pay etc. Any help would be appreciated. thanks.

Hi

A good place to start is to visit the ISO website where there is a bit under ISO help guides, first race meeting:- (http://www.isoracing.org.uk/iso_guides/first_race_meeting.htm).

The sailing instructions and entry forms will appear on the web-site at some stage so keep your eyes open for these (there will usually be a message posted on the message board announcing when they have been added to the web-site).

Event registration usually happens early on the first day of racing or sometimes even the night before (you will be able to drop of your boat on Friday I am sure) - though you should have already entered. You will also need to be a member of the class association if you aren't already. There will be a briefing sometime on the first morning, don't miss this as it tells you all the do's and don'ts etc.

It is a very friendly class and most people are happy to help others (people may not be quite so helpful as the start of the race is drawing near as they are rushing to get on the water, so if you have a question/need any help ask early). Hopefully they will do a pro-am pairing where after the first day the top crew will be paired with bottom crew, the 2nd crew with the 2nd to bottom and so on - we learnt loads from our pairing at our first nationals and it was a good way to meet others.

Hayling Island Sailing Club (http://www.hisc.co.uk/) is at the bottom of Hayling Island and as there is only one road down the island and it is a bank holiday I would suggest planning to arrive early. It does have a small chandlery which I would image would be open (but don't bank on it).

The cost for nationals is generally in the order of £90-£100 (per boat) and depending on the host club/Buzz Association this usually includes one meal and a tee-shirt (nice one - they even had ladies fit last year which was great). Many of the Buzz sailors also try and spend the evenings together (usually a pub for a meal) and sailors and friends are all welcome. I would book accomodation early as Hayling does get quite busy.

Other open events on the circuit are generally about £20-£30 per boat for the week-end but usually doesn't include any food - if you can make it Oxford is the first event of the year and would be a good warm up.

You generally get out of meetings what you put in, so come along and enjoy it. hope this is of some help - if you have further questions just keep posting.....

Best wishes
Jane

I am convinced. It is a great venue and sounds like a great crowd. I'm going. Who else is up for the Nationals this year?

Not my first Nationals but still have no idea!! You can normally enter on the day but better if done before the event.

Buzz 797 will be there. There is a standard entry form on the HISC website for open events but no mention of cost. Perhaps a link can be put on the events page of the website??
