A report will be placed on the site - somewhere, when it is compiled. I have a couple of pics, so too do other people.

Graham - No, we are not a development Class. However, the ISO is 10 years old and many members have either been tweaking their boats or have made Message Board and e-mail approaches about making changes the changes shown. We also have the issue of the availability of some items - rudder in particular.

As I hope we are a responsive Committee we encouraged those proposing change to get on and show everyone what they mean by putting those changes into practice for the Show. A lot better than just talking about them forever. Few if any of their proposals are expensive and all designed to run in parallel with the standard rig.

The Show got the attention of a lot of people, including the sailing Press - really good PR for the Class. Word also got round all the manufacturers giving us the scope for alternative suppliers to keep our boats on the water - when we want to sail - and at reasonable cost.

Your Committee actively discourage cheque book sailing. None of the changes shown will result in a change to the Class Rules without a majority vote from Class Members. The timescale for implementation, if at all, will be over the next 2 to 4 years - evolution and not revolution. I doubt all changes will get Member approval - we'll see.

To have your say please ensure your Membership Renewal, due 1st March, goes through and you complete and return the Rules 2004 ballot when you receive it later this month.

I hope this allays any concerns - everyone's continued feedback is welcomed and encouraged.

Graham, you are the only one who has spoken out about no development. All people at the show seemed ok about our class ideas that were discussed on the old messageboard.

All the items in question will NOT increase your boat speed nor will they stop you capsizing! We want to develop the class, or rephrasing that, bring the class to a more modern look, whilst at the same time not increasing / decreasing the speed of the boat.

The rules that have been proposed as well as a new boom and rudder stock, which both seem to be a very popular request from ISO sailors at the show, will increase the life span of the items (boom) and increase availability (rudder stock / tiller). The proposed rules will basically allow people to tweak with in reason. New fancy fittings will not increase your speed, so stay as you are.

These development stepas will NOT spplit the fleet. New sails and or mast head kite etc WILL split the fleet, the latter we do NOT want!

I will only buy a new boom if mine breaks. Same goes for the rudder bits.

I was the same as yourself, Don't change the boat, keep it as it is! But if we do that, then people will be in and out of the class because they are so restricted with what they can legally do to the boat.

I think that covers most bits.

Please continue to discuss if you have major concerns which we have missed.

I must admit that I fall into the leave the ISO well alone group. It is what it is and you know what you get when you buy one.
If you want all the other bits buy something else. To chage the overall look / aspect of the boat would be a sin. (Only my opinion). Stuart

The point is to keep people in the class and active at the events, not just at club level. As the boat stands, there is not much to keep people as they will have learnt the boat and asymmetric sailing, but then want more as in tweaking or boat handling.

The new rules regarding reduction of rope diameters, carbon boom, any fittings you want etc, will NOT increase your speed and are not mandatory. The wings is another debate on another thread.
