Hi Guys

I'm looking for a Spice main and jib in servicable conditon. I have a good mylar main and a good dacron jib for racing but I'm trying to preserve them. My number 2 main is pretty shot and the number 2 jib almost as bad. I can't afford to have new made (though I'm talking to my local sailmaker, if he comes up with a good price I'll post here) so if anybody has reasonable sails for sail I'd be interested. If anybody has tried ISO sais on the Spice hardware I'd be interested to know how well they worked as that's my backup plan. I suppose a Buzz rig complete would work ok as the hulls are the same but is the mast foot/gate in the same position (I don't know but I'll measure the Spice next week and add to this thread). Failing that has anybody got a spice with a good/mint suit of sails for sale?

Cheers

Chas

Hi,

First thing, ISO sails do fit the Spice and work well, the main is the same height and foot length, the roach is cut slightly different. The jibs are also similar. The ISO kite is quite a bit smaller, but the halyard block is the same height, the pole is shorter, but you can limit the amount the pole extends to the same as the ISO, which is 1630mm.

The Buzz rig does fit on the Spice ok, we have done this before and it worked very well. You will need to add toe straps, which we made out of an old mainsheet, the jib blocks will need to be fully forward and finally, the space frame is higher, so you will need to move the cunningham block/ cleat up so that the top screw fits in the bottom hole instead, the mast plate that lines up with the frame could also do with being higher, we had an old one from a broken mast that we could clip onto the mast.

Hope that helps!!

Stuart.

Hi Stuart

Thanks that's very helpful. It's the big rig that's mos important, I have a La*er 2000 main for singlehanding in a blow. Has anybody got a servicable ISO training main and jib for sale?

Cheers

Chas
