Some of you will have heard of this already, but I've been contacted by Alex Ford who is setting up a circuit for the currently less-popular asymmetric classes, under the banner of Trapeze Asymmetric Sialing Assoc. It sounds like a very good idea to me - what do others think? I reproduce a mail from Alex below, complete with reference to TASA website. It looks as though the first event (at Weston in Feb) clashes with the Hoo Freezer, which we and one or two others normally do, but nothing's perfect!

Alex's mail:

I am emailing to tell you about a new organisation that I have founded, called TASA (Trapeze Asymmetric Sailing Association).

This association is intended to bring together sailors from any class with at least one trapeze, and an assymetric spinnaker. So far we have had interest from Bob (the iso class are backing the initiative), the Buzz Class seem very interested, the International 14s are very interested (especially the penultimate ones), the Spices are with us, the Laser/V3000s are also showing interest. On top of this, we have 2 RS800s, 2 49ers and an 18ft Skiff (Elle Bache, circa 1990).

Our main aims, as an association, are as follows;

- To provide a Forum to unite all of the above classes (we already have 30 + members, in just under a month)

- To promote all events, especially the mixed regattas and grand prix etc

- To provide inter class training days, with the aim of using experienced sailors to help introduce less experienced ones to the circuit. To this end, we have a few well known coaches already willing to give up time to help.

- To allow people to meet like minded sailors from different fleets, and to try other boats.

- To provide photo and video coverage of as many events as possible (we have 3 Professional photographers associated with TASA)

All we are asking is for you to promote our organisation to your members, in turn, hopefully benefiting your class by increasing attendance to your events, and getting more boats racing.
Please feel free to check our website (www.tasa.org.uk), or check the thread on the Yachts and Yachting Forums.

We are also holding an event in Weston soon, and any class representative would be great.

Any questions, please give me a call to chat more, and I hope to hear from you soon.

Alex Ford

Commodore, TASA.
