I see the Iso boys are testing new sail makers wih the view of making a rule change, would this not be a good move for the boss class as well ?

For what it's worth, I think that the current prices from Sobstad are not too bad: current quote is

Mainsail: £657.00
Jib: £280.00
Asymmetric: £555.00

All excluding VAT, though a 10% discount if you order now.

Compare prices for other classes of similar sail sizes. Quality / durability is pretty good.

Getting a mast is currently much more problematic - I gather that Steve M had to pay £3K to get one from Superspar.

They arnt too bad pete, but i think it would be in the interest of the class to allow other sail makers, just to make sur the sobstad prices stay keen if anything else. The problem charlie and i have is that we need a new kite desperately, but cant justify £555 plus the Vodka and tonic on a £400 boat! We are actually thinking of just getting Batt sails to produce one to the sobstad patern (send him our old kite and ask for replica)

I have just had a very interesting conversation with Andy Holmes at Wet and Windy (who has more than a hand in the recent developments in the Iso world). He is planning to take the patterns off all Boss sails, with a view to seeing if Hyde could take over production without changing the shape. Not changing the shape has to be right - the last thing we want is to split a small class even more.

This may put us in a position of actually having a reliable supplier. I would not expect anyone to be cheaper than Sobstad, though. Andy was surprised they were charging that little - it looked to be essentially cost price.

But why not try Batt - they might surprise us!

Mike also said that he is in discussion with Graham Eeles to see if they can cooperate to start offering masts at a less stupid price than Superspar.

He also stessed that they do have quite a lot of Boss kit inherited from Topper - this is all still being sorted out, as they keep finding that Topper had more stuff than they realised.
