hi - I had a go at setting the boat up properly on the weekend - 300lbs of jib tension and 7300mm from top of mast to top of rudder post - but the shrouds seemed to be under a lot of tension with this setting - could somebody have a look on their boat and tell me what tension their shrouds are under?

Hi,
I did the setup a few years ago and apply the 300 lbs. With stronger winds even more. I am told that there might be a difference depending on the gauge you're using. I'm using the superspar gauge which has a kind of conversion table for the different sizes of wire.

sorry Diederek - I might not have explained myself properly.
I've set the rig tension to 300lbs at the jib and positioned the shroud pins so that I have exactly 7300mm from top of mast to the top of the rudder post. but I need someone to tell me what tension this setting produces on their shrouds?
(I suspect my mast might be bent slightly forward and as such I am putting too much tension on the shrouds by striving to get exactly 7300mm of rake) |

Suspect the latter to be true.
Lean the mast back in the gate, where the shrouds dangle in the chain plates - pin 'em. Pull the jib up and apply 300lbs of rig tension (guage on a shroud at about shoulder height when stood on the ground - also so you can see the scale on the top). Guage is a SuperSpars guage and I think the reading is either 26 or 28 (that long since I've done it!)
Measure the rake with the tape and you will find that you are not far off. |

sorry - I've had some infromation on another post - I was measuring the rig tension by the tension of the jib - I should have been measuring the tension by applying the guage to the shrouds - not the jib luff.
Ok Ill try it again this weekend.
thanks for the help. |
