We're off to Phokaia, Turkey in a few weeks time with Sunsail to get a week of sailing in. Anyone any experience with them, with advice about whether to book their Assymetric 2-day sailing course or just to play with their assymetrics for experience? I can now happily rig the Buzz, I've been out on trapeze, helming is OK; haven't had the kite up yet.

Also, they have RS Vareos, Laser Vagos, Omegas, Topaz Race X, Laser 2000s - what would you recommend I play with to improve my Buzz sailing?

Thanks

Looking at that list the vago seems the most buzz like boat there so practising in that would most probably improve your buzz skills.

I think going on the asymetric course would most definately be a good idea as you will then get more confidence to be using the kite for the time after the course.

Hi, we went to Phokaia two years ago and had a fantastic time. We took the assymetric 2 day course and thought it excellent value - the wind was very strong so only experienced sailors were out but our instructor took us out in a variety of boats, mostly learning on the Feva as the wind overpowered us in anything else. I've never seen a Feva move so fast! We were introduced to the laser Vago which is a great boat and which lead us on to buying our first Buzz which we collected just yesterday. The vago was our first trapeze experience and resulted in a few dunkings. I would thoroughly recommend the course, ask them to take you out in a variety of boats - the tuition at this time of year is almost one to one. The vago is definitely the closest to the Buzz but make sure you try the topaz race X - a little single hander - it's great for learning helming and spinnaker handling at the same time. And be prepared to get wet!

We're off to Javelin in Turkey in 2 weeks time and very much looking forward to it.

One word of warning for Sunsail - excellent except for drink prices - take your own! An evening in Foccai is definitely worth it.

Enjoy your holiday

Helen. (new Buzz 1025 owner)
