I have been trying to source comprehensive breakdown cover for the car & trailor in readiness for trailing two boats down to Garda. Where I have found cover for the car & trailor, I have been told there are no guarantees of recovering the boats! I read a previous message saying that Green Flag were the only ones that cover the trailor, but even they are giving me this nonsense about the boats. This doesn't appear to make any sense at all, so I was hoping that somebody may be able to help me out here!

I've used Green Flag and they have been fine. What they say, if I remember correctly, is that they can't guarantee the recovery of the trailer, but they can guarantee getting parts out to the trailer to repair it.

Not much help I suppose if your car breaks down though. Would have to read up on it.

I just try not to break down! Get the car serviced before you go.

Green Flag were the only ones prepared to offer the guarantee of car and trailer recovery last year.

I hope they haven't changed their tune and copping out like the rest .........

As Pete says - service car and trailer before you leave and make sure you have a trailer spare tyre. Cost me £35 for a pair of tyres - and the piece of mind.

There is very little that can go wrong with the trailer.

In the 35 years of regularly towing; I have only ever had problems once and that was with a bearing colapsing. It was the return journey from Carnac and I was within half mile of my home sailing club.
Having said that, I do always carry spare bearings (if not the complete hub) a throwback to days of trailing dinghys with my Dad back in the '60s.
But in this instance the hub & bearing I was carrying was the wrong one. It was correct for the trailer for my first ISO, but not the trailer of my second ISO, despite being the same make and model.
So check for the correct ones before leaving for Garda because one set isan imperial size and V. Difficult to source on mainland Europe.
Hubs and bearings are available at reasonable prices from www.towsure.co.uk

Have a great time in Garda! I'm very envious 'cause I can't make it this year.
