If you want to sail in one of the best sailing location in the world, you shouldn't miss the
FIRST ITALIAN ISO CHAMPIONSHIP
which will take place in Cagliari (Sardinia) 19th-22nd June.
The race will be held together with Laser4000 Eurocup; you could benefit from transport agreement being already in place with Sailboatdeliveries.com.
If I'm right it costs 470 GBP sending the boat from UK to cagliari and back after one week, you should be able to book low cost flight to Cagliari Airport....

Sardinia, for those who have never been there, is famous for it's turquoise sea, white sands, steady winds, little rainfall...
We expect warm winds, 15 kts on average in june, and in the evening much fun and unbelivable local products like "purceddu" (pork), "Malloreddu" (kind of pasta), "Pecorino" (cheese, sheep milk), "Mirto & Filo e' ferru" (alchoolic beverages)....
You can find many information on the website of the sailing club hosting the event:
http://www.yachtclub-cagliari.com/club/sardegna/sardegna_e.html

If you are interested please drop me a line: mmoncia 'at' isoracing 'dot' it. I need to know how many boats we could expect and can possibly help you setting up for accomodations, giving advices,...

Finally, if you are considering buying a new boat from Wet&Windy and want to sell the old one it could be an option getting in touch with me in advance... Italy could be a new market for you (you leave the boat after the race)

Stay tuned: more info will come in the near future

Honeymoon before wedding, that is what we call being creative !!!!

plenty of accomodations possible, we have a local crew looking for accomodations for everyone, with several options : renting houses, camping (that will be my option), hotels, ...

Don't mind Pete, accomodation will not be a problem.

I just checked with sailboatdeliveries, the agreement is for 485 GBP (it was my fault writing 470) and they still have some availablities.
If someone is willing to sell the boat after the race they will be able to take it to me at my place on their way back (of course at no expenses for you), this makes it feasable to run this way....

keep an eye on this page and please get in touch with me if you have some interest in the event, so that I can have a rough idea of who's coming...

bye

Hi Marco
We would like all boats delivered to us by the 11th June. We are doing a collection of L4k's from Felixstowe on Sunday 10th June after they finish racing there so if there are any ISO's in that direction we can also load them at Felixstowe. We are aiming to get the friday ferry so that boats will be in Cagliari on Sat (16th) morning. We will then load the boats straight after racing on the friday and then head back to the UK. All boats are then to be collected from us in Emsworth.
If you could get them to let us know if there is any interest in this that asap as we need to book the italian ferries as Ian spoke to Ben this morning and they are apparently getting fairly booked up already.
Many thanks
Pippa

(this is the sea in front of the camping where I plan to stay, ~ 10 miles from the hosting club - see http://www.piniemare.com/ )

the beach close to the hosting club (the picture was taken on a rainy day, still have a look at the sea)

Hi Marco,

Those pictures have inspired me to go! The beaches look amazing! Sailing in 15kt winds each day in just my boardies sounds pretty good also! All I need now is money and time off work...

Matt

Just say you are working on public relations with the overseas sailors Matt and I'm sure Andy would believe you!

Ooo why can't you have held it a few days earlier, then I could have come.. What other exotic destinations could we have events at? I know they was bar talk of the Ibizia Open at one point.. For some reason Chew doesn't have the same appeal now!

Matt, we invited to our class evening a guy from the 4K fleet to present their boat and class activities, the same with RS, 49er, ...
I guess that someone from wet & windy should join to present the ISO as well...
tell this to Andy....

(unfortunately I cannot attach the "purceddu" smell to this topic, it would move more people than the white beaches...)

Hi Bob, I cannot help you with the time off, but I think I can help you with the Euros....
I'm buying some (2-3) used boats to help the class spread more, I'll send them in Italy (I already have 4-5 crews interested)
the boats will come to Cagliari and I'm going to "rent" them to partially recover travel expenses and being able to offer at a competitive price...
my idea is renting for the whoole week for 400 euro (~ 275 GBP) - so you save 210 GBP instead of sending your own boat (would cost 485 GBP with sailboatdeliveries.com)

If you are interested let me know, I may suggest you to take a kite with you and we'll see what we can do for sails (since I'm not confident those boats will have new sails...)

that's too easy, Bob, Insurance is already considered in the 275 GBP.
That will not cover OWN damages, but only damages to other people/boats, as prescribed by IYRU and italian sailing Federation.
Try a more difficult question next time.

If someone is interested I could also ask to the insurance company how much it will cost for an insurance covering damages on the boat as well, but it would cost more... (I promise I'll check in the next days)

PS:
This morning I was almost confirmed of a UK crew coming... Who is next ?

Hi guys, the first Italia ISO cup is over...
It was a great event, even if only 6 boats joined it (but still representing all Italy, so a good moment to meet and start the fleets not based in North Italy)

4 days, 10 races, sun shining all the time, the wind spanning from 5 to 18 kts, good hospitality/eating/drinking.....

most of the time we were able to reach the 4k (started 6 minutes in advance...)

It's a pitty we missed the UK boats, I look forward for the next events (a race report and photos will be available shortly)
