Currently in talks with Herne Bay SC regarding a training day for all ISO sailors attending this years nationals. All those up for this, please post as we want an idea of numbers so HBSC can see if it is worth it or not.

Date - Friday 24th August (day before the nationals kicks off).

Person running the ISO training - Me (plus any other top of the fleet sailors who might be available).

Food - in negotiations to get the galley open (also depends on number of attendees)

Training aimed at - those who haven't done any race meetings, back to mid of the fleet.

Training provided - anything you want / need i.e. how to rig, tune, launch, capsize (recovery - as I'm sure you can capsize on your own well enough), tack, gybe, sail in a straight line, racing tactics, racing rules (am I the best person for this bit!?!?), land your boat, repair boat, drink beer......

Cost for the day (for those attending the nationals event over the following 3 days) - FREE!!

This is just to get a feeler for how many. Confirmation later if we get the ok from Herne Bay SC.

Pete,

Sounds perfect - we definately qualify for the 'back to mid of the fleet' - although mainly the back of the fleet by the time we get to the finish line.

I will be up for this assuming me and my crew can get the extra day off work.

Cheers,

Jim.

Great, pencil me in! Just need to organise myself - join Assoc', get boat ready, clear it with the wife etc.

Had the ISO for a few months now but hardly sailed due to weather & crew problems. Didn't think I would be ready to enter any races this year but this is an ideal opportunity and will give me the kick start I need.

Any body thinking they are not good enough for the 'National Championships' view the event from another angle and call it something else -

'A weekend sailing with other ISO's at a different club where I meet new friends, learn loads, have tons of fun, sail round a few floating marks that the others do a bit quicker and more serious than myself but have just as much fun as myself...'

Bit of a mouthful that but sum it up in fewer words - 'A fun, change of scenery, sailing weekend!'

A little reading for you all (to be familiar with nothing serious...)

See you there for an 09:00 start on the Friday morning! (Earlier we start, the more we get out of the day).

Pete

What will the format for the training day be.... my crew and i can possibly only make it for the Sat of the nationals so didnt think it was worthwhile for the day... but it may be if we can bolt on a days training beforehand we might be able to twist the wives arms (with flowers and chocs)

We are trying to get to grips with the Hydes.... realised we need to lengthen the mainsheet strops as i cant get block to block from the old sob settings. Anyone give us some guidance on length. Every time we have tried to do it before a race it has been blowing hard so havent had the opportunity to measure on dry land.

Cheers Bryan

Regarding your hydes - please start another thread.

Format of the day is kick off at 09:00 finish when we finish / drop asleep! We will cover anything you want us to cover, but we WILL definately cover rig set up, what ropes to pull (when and how much). We will cover boat handling and any racing stuff you want covered from paperwork how to sign in, to protests if you so need to ever worry about that due to the friendliness of the class!

OK, so I'm new to this event thing.

We're driving up Thursday evening so probably won't be there til 9-10pm ish. What do we do when we get to Herne?? Can we take the boat to the club & secure it there or simply find a car park somewhere and hope it's still there in the morning? What is everyone else doing??

Will food be available at the club during the event or do we bring a mahoosive picnic??

Sooo many things to think about! Any advice appreciated.

Nigel

Now is a good a time as any to give full details of the training day - this applies to both Buzz & ISO classes.

We need to start the training day at 09:00 as we only have one day! This means you have to be there with your masts up, over and under covers off. If it is raining, then first thing we will do is get changed! If dry, don't worry about getting changed.

Those arriving the day before, could you please contact me direct isofeedback3 'at' asafeplace . co . uk I can try and arrange to get the barrier opened for you so you can drop the boat off. If you do drop the boat off, I have been advised that the mast needs to be put upright to help avoid any accidents with Joe public.
Another tactic which I have employed at service stations when I need a kip, is to leave the boat on the car and reverse it tight upto a brick wall or the wheels touching the kerb. I then leave the car attached and I sleep in the car - helps prevent theft.

I have had confirmation that the galley will be open for teas coffees, snacks, sandwiches for us. No need to pre book for food, we will sort it on the day.

The plan is to do a rigging and tuning talk for both Sobstads and Hydes - depending on who's got what! Anybody that needs things looking at such as rudder set up or other important stuff, we will then cover. Next after getting changed we go for a sail or swim round a short windward leeward course. An hour or so later we come ashore, bit of a debrief and food. Then back out on the water to try and put it all into practice again, back ashore, debrief, food, repairs, install any tweaks.... Then collapse around 17:00. Back to our various accom, then later we all meet up for an evening meal down the local pub.

Obviously all is weather dependant, so things could change! (We could be in the pub all day!)

Any problems, please do get in touch.
