Is it true that there are plans to not have a Eurocup next year? If so can we have this confirmed as it will most likly raise the numbers for this year.

That's the bar talk at the moment - but I wouldn't describe it as "plans" just yet. It's an option for which the discussion has just been kicked off.

Another option is that we make a point of further combining our efforts with the Italian ISO fleet that Marco has done a simply wonderful job of getting going. If you haven't taken a look at the Italian web site then recomend that you do www.isoracing.it. The combined ISO / L4k event in Sardinia in a couple of weeks time looks superb - albeit expensive to get to.

1 let's have everyone's thoughts on how we should go forwards with a European summer event for 2008

2 Make this year at La Rochelle another great Eurocup event by coming along - you've all seen the very strongly positive comments from last year - and people going to take a 2nd bite of the fun

Anyone want help finding accomodation and ferries then - as always - just ask

Cheers

Plans for next year are already well under way. We are looking at the Italian lakes but not at Malcesine. I am told there should be 15+ Italian ISOs there. No more details as yet.

We gave it a try in Holland for this year.
We have mavellous racing sites... just near the ferry...
the main problem is that in Holland we can't get the organisation round in the middle of the summer hollidays... we had a window but was too close to the Nationals... When something can be done with the planning... we could give it another try

It is the organisation that also organizes the Medemblik Europeans etc...

The dutch alternative is a separate start at the dutch open skiff championship.. 29-9/30-9 this year...
49er/ 29er/ RS800/ Moth / Musto Skiff etc... the whole bunch (and very good sailing/ camping etc...)

Ok call me thick but I have filled in the entry form from the link on the dedicated page and translated it via the link @ Bablefish but it won't submit. On the list of events at the top of the page there is not a mention of Eurocup. How did everyone else enter?
Also the camping pdf does not have a number to fax the reservation to?
Can anyone help me as I am useless at this?
One more question. I have printed the notice of race and it says "integral payment for booking shall be made in euros, on web site free of charges, by bank card to SSR. I am asuming this means "initial" payment?

Hi, regarding EC 2008 I'm currently exploring several options, wich I like to share with the class.
There could be an option on every North Italy lake, my favourite would be still GARDA (maybe in front of Malcesine, in Campione).

there Could be also an option (discussed with the Laser 4000 class in Cagliari) to have a combined Eurocup (with 80+boats in total)
They are planning to have their EC in Garda (RIVA DEL GARDA), end of June.
Riva can host 100+ boats (tested myself with 470) it is a bit more windy than Malcesine (at least 2-4 kts more than Malcesine on average)
I leave it up to you discussing internally to the class and if needed with L4K.uk this option and then come back ot me for further steps.

We had 6 boats at the nationals this year in Sardinia, I feel confident that EC in Italy will result in at least 10 italian boats (+ some german) showing up...

Don't forget the teachers. Over here in the UK, they break up about the last week of July. Anything before that then they won't be able to attend. There are about 6 teachers in the Buzz and ISO fleets so that immediately drops us down by 6 boats. The timing of La Rochelle (in addition to our wedding) means we couldn't attend even if we wanted to.

Greetings - Great discussion thread - So....should the Buzz & ISO EC planning be determined by whether we're teachers or not - we should not forget the potential benefits to those others able to book leave more flexibly viz cheaper ferries, accommodation etc .....
At the last count there is only likely to be one teacher in the Buzz (travelling) fleet....it would be worth 'market testing' the ISO (travelling) fleet to determine what 'other' committed interest there might be for an 'out of school holidays' event.

Don't get me wrong - this is not positive discrimination - just a means of testing what option would maximise attendance.....

Buzz: - Zoe (soon to be teacher)& Isabel.
ISO: - Colin, Annie, Vicky Gould (I think).

For starters (Ok, I can't remember the 6th). We know when we're not wanted!

My thoughts were to go to a different lake this time, having been to Garda 3 years running 2003-2005. Late July/ early August is best for me.

Regarding the La Rochelle entry form - I just completed mine and thought it was bit of a nightmare. But with a bit of guesswork, managed to do it and pay the 30 Euros deposit. If you are struggling I can try and help, but i'm no expert.

Hi,

Do you think that maybe we should continue this discussion as a new topic, something like Eurocup 2008? The reason is that the original question has been left/ignored.

Lloyd, in order to book the campsite i had to send my booking by post, whether i could have faxed it i don't know.

Entry, i think this needs clarifying in order to make it easy to enter, perhaps through a central point over here (maybe something for a different topic for future Eurocups). Anyway, i think last year i paid by card by emailing details to the club, not the best or most secure way of doing it, but it worked. Perhaps someone can give a step by step process on how to enter this year, to save each entrant guessing their way through the process?

Stuart.

I'm just getting around to filling in the entry form for La Rochelle...

It asks for a Licence Number : one for the helm and 1 for the crew + some sort of number for the home club. Do we need to contact them beforehand to get this? Can we sort it out once we're there? Or can we just ignore it?

Ta,

Jim.

I managed to register for La Rochelle using their web-based booking form. It uses pay-pal (to pay the 30 Euro deposit) and saves having to send cheques/Euro bank drafts using snail mail.

The people at La Rochelle have confirmed my registration and acknowledged reciept of the 30 Euros so that just leaves the ballance (110 Euros) to pay on arrival. The french was a bit of a challenge but I'm assuming I should be able to iron out any small mistakes when we arrive...

I just thought I'd let people know as we're coming up against the July 15 deadline for the cheaper entry.

Like Jim, I booked and paid 30 euro deposit online (I did it a month ago) but I am now a bit confused. The English form that Pete has loaded onto the ISO site has a bit on the bottom about booking dinner. There was no reference to meal booking on the online form. What/when is this meal and how do I book that now if required?

Also, I don't know if you did the same Jim but I left the Licence No. blank and typed my club name in the club number field. It hasn't been queried, so I assume that was OK.

I left the licence number blank and put in the comments bit on the form that I didn't have a licence but that I was an ISO Class Assoc Member - and to contact me if there was a problem. They confirmed that I had registered OK so I don't think it's a problem. I'll be taking my ISO membership stuff and I did hear (from a separate source) that proof of insurance is required.

I had forgotten about the meal - I'll confirm with the people I'm travelling down there with that they would like to attend then e-mail them with the numbers.

I got a prompt response for my various booking confirmation questions from this e-mail address so I'll try this one...

reservation en ligne [resa@srr-sailing.com]

All overseas events usually require proof of insurance. Ensure you take it with you.

I signed up on line over a month ago using the French sign in form. It didn't ask me for Euro30 as far as I recall and I've heard nothing since.

The English version seems to want the full entry fee sending in - somehow - but not clear how.

If someone has cracked the code for signing up, paying a deposit on line with credit card - and getting confirmation please post the Janet and John guide pdq. There's no point in everyone getting bored with trying to find out how to do it.

We need to make it REALLY simple for everyone to sign on

Thanks

Bob

I signed up and paid the 30 Euros using the French form before the English form was posted.

However, if can remember correctly, even though everyone signed up using an English form, no one paid anything before arriving in La Rochelle and the majority paid by credit card on the registration day.

My view is don't worry about paying now, but get the application in pdq before the price hike deadline.

Bob, I can't remember exactly the steps that took me to the deposit payment but I think once I had clicked on the "Valider votre inscription" button, it asked for the deposit to validate the entry. What I do remember is that when it came to the payment bit you could select English (or UK or Royaume-Uni)and then the form switched to an all English version. It is a pity one couldn't do the same for the entry form.
I received two emails as a result of entering: one from SRR confirming registration and one from paypal confirming payment of 30euros to SRR.

Perhaps it is something we need to consider for future events to arrange with the host club to have online form with a few language options. I guess if it was a class specific event then entries would be processed by the class association(s) rather than directly with the host club/organisation.

Having signed up using the French form - valider, etc, etc - I enquired yesterday and received an e-mail this morning that said no they had not received my application.

Faxed the completed English version this morning - with e-mail request for confirmation and not heard any more yet.

Campsite - I snail mailed the form plus some cash Euros deposit and got prompt written confirmation back in the mail a week later.

At least we have a campsite to trade for morning tea Rob !!

Due to arrive Sunday ( 22nd ..... ! ) - see you there

Bob

I faxed my entry form to the club failed first time as it has 0044 as the code for the country. which is wrong. so faxed again with the corect code (0033). i then e-mailed them to ask if they had it they replyed within the hour. Job done.

I also posted the letter to the campsite with 30 euros but have heared nothing. I have a french student staying at my house next week so if he can understand me i will get him to phone and check our reservation.

See you there

A French speaking colleague of Joy's telephoned the camp site and they said that they are not accepting bookings by fax this year so I snail mailed them with the money. As for the entry I sent it airmail and e-mailed them asking for a reply to confirm reciept and so far I have heard nothing!

I realise it's at six/seven days range, and therefore abost as accurrate as a high level bombing raid by an american pilot wired to the gills on drugs, but Wind Guru currently predicts decent wind and big rolling waves: http://www.windguru.cz/int/url.php?wj=knots&tj=c&odh=4&doh=22&fhours=

I tried the phone route to the campsite several times and all I got was the answerphone. Mailed the form and some Euros - prompt reply back. Job done.

Race entry - faxed the entry form through with credit card details and now got confirmation a week later that we're entered.

Roll on those waves !!!! They were the nuts last year

Of course, the forecast looks less fun now.

Also, anyone else flying out on Sunday? It appears the airport bus is only Monday-Saturday
