Hi,
I've just started sailing an ISO for the first time and really love the boat. I've not used the asymmetric before and was just wondering.....
The other day we were sailing with a Wayfarer in a very light breeze, heading directly down wind. The Wayfarer went straight down wind, but we had to go across the wind to keep the kite flying. However, we found that the extra distance we had to do wasn't compensated by a big increase in speed and ended up behind the Wayfarer! But we found we could beat the Wayfarer by heading straight down wind with the main out one side and the kite out the other! Both needed a helping had to keep them in place and flying (not gybing) but we got down-wind quicker than if we'd had the kite behind the main and gone across the wind.
Has anyone else found this to be true in light winds, is it a recognised technique, or is it just us in need of better kite practise?
Will.

Goos winging the kite is chuffin hard! I would opt for dropping the kite about 1foot from the top, ease the main to between the leeward quarter and leeward shroud. Both of you in the middle of the boat and the crew constantly keeping the kite luff on the curl. You won't be able to point as low as the Wayfarer (possibly) but you won't lose as much ground.

Goose winging the kite doesnt work.
The secret to beating the wayfarer is sit forward, let the kite halyard off 18 inches, lean the boat to weather and keep still.
Its great, the kite just bellows round to windward and away you go.

Hi,
Which of these methods (or other ones) work well on the Buzz . . . .?
