Hi

I have a spice and want an alternative (slightly smaller) kite for windier weather.

does anyone have the ISO rig dimensions so I can work out if I have any geometric challenges - i.e. whether the height will work or if I have to shorten the bowsprit

thanks!

Richard

Hi Richard,

I have looked at this option and it is possible, i actually used a Buzz kite on my first Spice, then an ISO kite until i managed to get a Spice one.

The spinnaker block is exactly the same height as the ISO, so no problem there, the pole is longer and strengthened on the Spice (alloy tube inside the Spice pole), but the kite flies fine, you could of course shorten the pole line to reduce how far the pole extends to make the same as the ISO. I didn't use the ISO kite long enough to check for boat balance, this could also determine whether better to have the pole fully extended or in the ISO position. The ISO pole is actually the same as the Buzz pole, which we can measure next time we are at the club if that helps.

We intend to sail our Spice most Sundays this year so will probably try the ISO kite when windy to see how it feels, we will probably post updates here and on the Spice site www.spice-sailing.co.uk

Our Spice kite is actually bright pink so should clash really well with the yellow hull!!!
