I've got a problem with our jib halyard. It seems to be to long. Thus my question is: How long is the jib halyard, just the wire for the old jib. Thank for your help.

Well that wasn't a success. I forgot to measure my jib halyard. I'll try again next weekend. |

I'm trying to work out why the halyard would be too long in the first place...the only thing i can think of is - is it set up for a two-to-one arrangement with a block at the top of the jib? If not, then you'd probably end up with about 6 inches too much wire. If that's the case, the end of the halyard should be fixed to the front of the mast, with a block at the head of the sail, before going through the sheave on the mast and down to the tensioner. I can;t see any reason why the wire would be too long..... |

The set up is for a two-to-one arrangement with a block at the top of the jib. So that shouldn't be the problem. I don't no, if the failure was done by the last owner.... But with the two to one arrangement, the wire ends nearly "on deck" and the mast is still at the hindmost position.... So it's not possible to get enough power for light wind... |

Weird. I don't suppose you're setting a new size jib on an unconverted boat, i.e. with the roller furler on the space frame? That would do it. Mike - with Peter away in Oz, our boat will be sitting at Shoreham, so feel free to add to your database of halyard lengths while you've got the tape out |

No, it's not a new sized jib. It's the old size and the boat is not changed i.e. the roller furler is still on the space frame. From my side, the problem is the last owner, who was a "sunday sailor". He has changed a couple of things on the boat. Now, I'm trying to set up the boat as it should be.... So if any body has any further informations (fotos, drawings,...) of the boat set up, that would be great (there are not a lot of such information on the boss web page, and to get these information from topper seems to be impossible....) But of course the length of the halyard is the most important topic at the moment.

Had anybody the time to measure the jib halyard last weekend? That would be great. Thank you. |

Sorry Meens, but I ended up having to work last weekend so did not get the opportunity to get the tape measure out.
I'll get back to you soon I hope.

OK - I have now measured my jib halyard. It came to 6.125 metres. I have sent you an email to show my measurements.

Thank you Mike.
That's very helpful... my jib halyard is much longer, thus the actual halyard is not the origin... So will buy a new one with the right length. Thank you. Andy.
PS: Your mail isn't arived yet. |
