Snapped a toestrap today on my first outing in 784. No great disaster but I see that a replacement set is £30! Can I just buy the standard webbing and do away with all the eyes that are set into the offical topper straps? The eyes only seem to connect to some bungee at the mainsheet strop (which I reckon I could live without) and the other eye further back has a line passing through it and across the boat which doesn't seem to do much either? |

The lines and elastics do do stuff - hence we use them. They may appear not to do stuff on your boat if you have not gone through some of the tweaks on the website.
You could use normal webbing of the same width. Maybe melt some holes in them - but any fixing rope would burn / cut their way through in no time.
Let us know how you get on.

Our sponsor - Cousin Trestec - has some suitable webbing - product code PEWP050. Give their UK reps PT Winchester a all on 01823 431885 - ask for Stephen Coe.
For eyes your local chandler or sail repair shop should be able to punch some in for you while you wait.
Another idea I've been toying with but not tried yet is that Milletts have some plastic eyes that you can pop together very easily yourself. Intended for ground sheets but they look like they should be good enough for eyes in toe straps. Be interested in the result. |

The boat hasn't been tweaked yet and I figured I would sail it a few times before making any alterations.
One alternative I have come up with is to slide a stainless steel ring (one of 45mm diameter ones) over the straps and tie the bungee to this.
I think I will play around with some ideas. Thanks |
