It looks like they may have got the wrong impression of keeping the boat flat. It seems like the intention is to keep the mast horizontally flat!

yeah - love the quote 'such a joy to sail and we can do well in handicap racing' as they head straight for the bottom....

That's our boat, but is being sailed by the current Laser 4000 European champion while we were doing the 2-boat testing for Dinghy magazine. They capsized about 5 seconds later...!!
