Hi all. It's the time of year when the class needs to decide whether to have a boat on the stand at Alexandra Palace. The deal is that it would be part of a group along with Iso, Buzz and possibly Spice. As I see it, the issues are as follows. It will cost about £400 altogether. We have this, but it's nearly half the current class bank balance. (On the other hand, money sitting there is not doing anything.) We also need to find a boat to show, get it there and find people wililng to run the stand. Last year, we had some people (some of the time) but no boat - essentially zero visibility. The event has some impact. Though it may not lead directly to people joining the class, it people do come & talk (if there's a boat there) and a proportion of them have some real interest that can be encouraged. For smaller classes, it's also a reminder to the wider world that we exist! Classes not there may be seen as not worth anyone thinking about. As I say, now is decision time. Any views? Any better ways of spending limited resources to promote the class? Anyone prepared to help? |
