Hi,
I would like to know what the ideas are about the use of class legal Sobstads. Mine are still in good shape, except for the spinny. I consider buying a class legal Sobstad spinny and would like to know if there is a chance that Sobstad sails are not allowed for racing in the future? Personally I don't mind if teams sailing with Hide sails have a small advantage. We first need to improve our boat handeling and tactics before it might be worth wile changing to Hides.
Can anybody comment on the difference between a Sobstad and a Hide spinny?
Cheers, Diederik |

I can guarantee that you will not be turned away from any ISO event for using a sobstad sail if that is the only sail you have.
The rules say that the use of Saobstads will be reviewed after 3 years of the Hydes introducton. This will undoubtadly be extended.
I believe everyone would agree that the Hydes perform better in all wind conditions and it is hoped those who regularly race will want to have them but there is no intention to disadvantage those who choose not to buy new equipment.

Hi Diederik
When we bought our ISO last year we also converted to Hyde Sails... What I see is the shape of the main and spinny as much different... Main is easier to sail in strong winds. Spinny is fuller and bigger than sobstad. You can sail deeper with hyde... I wouldn't change back tot sobstad (may be in light winds the baggy sobstads have an advantage...)
You might choose a Hyde spinny on a sobstad main and jib... I am not sure how main and jib of diffeerent makes conbine well... CU at eurocup?? or german open in trier??
might be good.
