I've just bought ISO 722 and consider myself very much a beginer. This is going to be a family boat to sail for recreation to start with and then a club and perhaps a go at racing. I have sailed generally family boats in the past (Wayfarer, Enterprise etc... and a bit of Laser.)We want something considerably more exciting , so I parted with my money and here we are. Are there any dates for next year out yet for the training weekends.
I joining the association next month. I'm skint now due to the boat!

regards

Bob

Hi Bob - welcome to the fleet

No dates published yet - typically get published around December / January.

The sort of profile we aim for is an event a month from March to October, including Nationals, Eurocup and Inlands. Plus quite a few people attend Winter events such as the Bloody Mary, Hoo Freezer and Grafham Slalom - for example.

Training - gets organised by those - such as yourself - motivated to do so. Process is simple - click on the Training link on the home page, fill in your details and then sort out a venue. Earlier you come along to an event for a swim and beer the sooner you get it upright and the grin factor kicking in

Not as confused as I am. But I do know that I deserately need training. Been out this afternoon to give my ISO its first dip (with me, and my son.) All was going well in gusty 10 -15mph winds. Then I fell off the back for no good reason! The boat capsized, as you'd expect so a nice swim in cold water and a bit of a laugh. It gave the locals licking their ice creams something to gawp at. Then we approached the jetty with a modicum of skill, pulled up alongside and stopped beautifully. My son jumped out and tied the painter to the jetty. Only snag being that we forgot to tie it to the boat. (Ho hum!) I then drifted away to see my son jump in the water after me. I still can't work out why.

Regards

Bob

There's some interest in having training in the Datchet area from someone else.

How does this suit you - and when ??

( Guess this is when B2B takes on a whole new meaning )

Thanks for that. I'm looking for training into 2005 as I want to get out with my boat a few times first so as not to waste too much time on very basic boat handling. We are also lacking cold weather dry suits at the moment (Don't believe everthing you hear about Northeners. There are some softies up here!!) I will watch with interest for a course into next year.

Get something in now before the water turns cold. Stays warm enough for wet suits down here until around end of November - but even then quite a few people go through the winter in just a wet suit with maybe added wind proofs. Stays cold until about April - which puts a big hole in your getting used to the boat before the season's racing gets going in March.

Don't worry about the basics, we can get round those in a matter of hours. Datchet based offer remains open - come on down.

What dates were you thinking of? 23rd / 24th October is good. Or any other weekend when the sun is out, the wind is warm and water HOT!
Any ideas about accomadation around Datchet. I assume we are talking about Datchet near London not somewhere else.

Around then - need to check the half term diary vs pass outs. Might need to be 30th / 31st.

London Datchet is the one M4, J5 www.dwsc.co.uk

Come on down this weekend and join the other new guys at the Inlands. Talk to folks and get some tips from the Pro-Am competition - and the bar

We'll finalise a date then.

Let me know a date. I would still prefer the 23rd/24th but will fit in if I can.

Hi Pete! I remember emailing you ages ago with regards to some training in my proud purchase of an ISO (number 570 I think, an earlier one anyway, one previous careful owner with a spinnaker that needs repair/replacement). It was purchased in July and is still sat at home having not being sailed Been very busy and want to get her out on the water this year if possible! I am based in Hampshire and have my RYA level 3 Dinghy (years ago mind) and my father who will be sailing it with me for purely leisure are in need of some training! I would be interested in popping up to Datchett if you are about and having a chat over a beer. I am a glider pilot in my spare time and do enjoy the competitive spirit racing around the sky, but I would like to get used to the boat before I start entering races. 23/24th Oct is fine to come up to Datchett and chat, however, I need to purchase a wet suit before I go swimming. Kind Regards, Tim

Folks - The forecast for Saturday is offering a great grin factor for experienced crews - but at 20 knots+ it is too heavy for training. Sunday looks perfect but I know Team Brayshaw have a very long drive for which 1 day isn't really worth it.

If whoever wants to come would like to propose another weekend I'll check my diary.
