are we going to have the usual windward leeward boring courses at the Nationals - what about olympic course for some variety - any views?

It's got to be windward leward surely. Olympic course would take away half the tactics wouldn't it?

It is going to be a windward/leeward course, with a choice of 2 leeward marks, one port and one starboard. I was talking to the PRO yesterday about it.

Regardless of racing issues it would certainly be more fun with a couple of tight reachs!

Close reaches for the drag race and tactical overtaking / being overtaken?

The more buoys you use, the longer it takes to set the course up and move if there is a wind shift.

well I find windward leeward REALLY dull especially as we are doing 4 races a day it is going to get so tedious - olympic course is only 3 buoys so thats one extra to move - surely we can mix it up a bit for the sake of our sanity.......

A bit of variation would be nice, i do get fed up with windward/leeward courses, although i know the theory of why we have them. 4 races a day!!! I hope that's not going to effect the social side of the weekend!

If you'd like to make a change from the normal windward/Leeward courses then why not come along to Medway Regatta in July (dates on the Buzz calender), the courses will be varied and should involve most points of sailing.

Olympic courses are windward leaward (straight up and down) for all asymetric boats ie. 49er tornado.Have a close reach on the way to the start if you must have a blast but don't ruin the racing. The only boats I know who sail triangles are Enterprises and Albacores and they don't have kites, now that is dull!

thought the olympic course included a sausage ( we all like sausages don't we? ) which is straight up and down - as well as triangle - think the windward leeward is a veggie thin man conspiracy - now where did I put those lentils.......

Well i've never ever seen a 49er event where they do a triangle. If a windward leward is gd enough for them then it's good enough for me!

think the 49er has slightly more sail area than we do so tight reach would be a challenge for them - lets all just sit in the middle of the boat then its so much safer!

anyone got any tips on where to tie my thermos onto - should milk be added at the windward or leeward mark?

If you add milk at the top mark, then by the bottom mark, you should have Frothy Coffee ready to be decanted whilst the crew is dropping the flappy thing.

So thats how you get it to go frothy! Thanks Pete, i've been trying for years. You'd better add my sponsor to the homepage; a small american company called Starbucks

Tight reaching might just make it a bit more unfair for the lightweights in the boat. The heavier guys could pop their kites earlier whilst we have to keep it bagged a tad longer so we can make the mark.
