I have just tried to rig the main on my new ISO and while it flew up the first half of the mast it progressively gets more difficult the higher it gets, then 40 to 50cm from the top it will go no further!! in the end we tipped it over and pulled it from the top, what a palaver that was. Any ideas on whats wrong and how to fix it.
Many Thanks
Andy

we sometimes have that problem. Normally at this time of year as the mast has nott benn used that much and has had leaves and crap land in the track. Wash the track out with water, wait for it to dry then pro lube the whole track and the bolt rope on the main. If that does not work the track might be slghtly pinched in one section. but try wash out first.

- Top batten really tight,
- Main was not on the center line whilst hoisting,
- Battens were not popped all the same way,
- Dent in the mast track,
- Mast track gets narrower near the top for some reason,
- Rig tension on too tight, (let it off whilst hoisting main if you have probs)
- Mud / grit in the track (wash it out and spray lube it up with McLube, or ProLube)
- If it goes up so far ok, then I would say the bolt rope is ok.
- The sheave in the top of the mast that the main halyard runs round, could be knackered and making it hard to hoist.

Anything else?

Id say it it almost definately because the rig tension is on and you have your sreaders set back which promotes alot of bend in the mast.

Does the sail go tight at the point at which it enters the mast track when the sail is most of the way up?

Buy a foam mop to go in a drill and some Ferecla rubbing compuond from an auto shop like Halfords and follow the instructions. The foam mop is some times called a G mop and the compound comes in grades ie G6 and G3. The shop will advise if you tell them it is for glass fibre not paint.
