Looking ahead it seems to be the case that ISAF are going to enforce removable trapeze hooks, possibly by 2009ish. Just wondering what people's experience of these hooks is and how some compare to others. I have heard that some sieze up after a few months whilst others simply drop us lovely crews in the water

The proposed rule change was due to come in for this season but has been delayed due to the lack of a good design i think.

As far as I am aware, the RWO one was the best on the market. Could be released under immense loading. Not sure if it is one of those that you mention siezes up though.

Hello, I have used an RWO quick release hook, for 2 season now, and have had no problems, just need to rense with fresh water sfter use, and carry a spare hook on you just in case. Itcan be fitted to a Gul harness, just by un-threading the straps, but you will need to check this if you are just buying the buckle and hook.

I was wondering Barry whether you could show us just how well it works at the next event. Video cameras at the ready. Maybe we could have the file on this website we could call it Barry released. You could be famous.

I've been assured by several people that the only danger is the helm pressing the button. I think that there should be a prize up for grabs for the helm that gets their crew the best in front of everyone?!

That sounds like a really fun game Graham - think I shall make sure my feet are planted firmly on dry land. I'll not rush to get a quick release hook otherwise I shall have to be on my best behaviour at all times when crewing.
