Dear marco, I remember when you advertised to buy an ISO a couple of years ago you mentioned that European (or was it only Italian?) trailor legislation is different from England's. I want to trail a 4.7 metre dinghy from Croatia to England next month, and so I want to check out if I need say 300mm diameter tyres. I suspect that a trailor meeting England's regulations (eg: 250mm diameter tyres are OK) WILL be accepted as legal in Europe, as the trailor will be only travelling through Europe "on holiday" - but i would like to be sure!

James. We`ve towed our trailer twice this year to the UK from Germany, thro France, Netherlands & Belgium with no hassles. We have the standard 250mm wheels. We had the trailer inspected by the German TUV, they only insist upon the trailer board being the same width as the vehicle, and having a fog light. In Italy you need the large square reflector also to attatch to the boat/trailer. Beware in Germany the speed limit is 80kph. We got a ticket for doing 140, the cop was very cool, barely looked at the trailer and advised us "off the record" not to exceed 100. I think as long as everything is in good working order, lights, signals etc all function...and you don`t travel at 140, you should be ok!

Hi guys, unfortunately I'm not so expert in european regulations.
What I know is that, if you, italian, wish to tow a trailer in Italy, you need an Italian plate and an owner document, and obtaining them from italian authority would be so difficult (as an example, you'd need some security certifications not available in Uk, and THE PREVIOUS OWNER signing the document in front ot the italian Authority, to prove the sale...) that it is less expensive to buy a new one.
I don't think there is any problem using trailers from other country in EU, but still I'd suggest you to check with some more competent sources...
bye
